What’s happening in your
community…
Thank You!
Abig thank you tothose who came along on
the weekend to help with the replanting of the
Waikuku Beach shelterbelt.
Earlier this year, the macrocarpa shelterbelt along
Park Terrace was removed following community
engagement about the ongoing maintenance costs
of the shelterbelt.
We were very fortunate tohave the Student
Volunteer Army help with the replanting aer the
bad weather meant they couldn’t travel to Nelson
for ascheduled project.
More than 30 members of the Student
Volunteer Army joined with members of the
community, Council staff, rangers and Ian Fong
and Shona Powell from the Woodend-Seon
Community Board for the replanting.
This meant more than 1060 seedling low-growing
native shrub and tree species were planted in one
hour. Atremendous effort.
The group then were able to enjoy abarbecue
lunch together aer the hard work was done.
Another 360 seedlings were planted on Monday
this week which completed the job.
