Born on June 23, 1980, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> picturesque<br />

city of Pisa, Italy, Becky<br />

Cloonan has established herself as<br />

a prom<strong>in</strong>ent American comic book<br />

creator whose work has graced <strong>the</strong> pages<br />

of publishers like Vertigo, Dark Horse, Harper<br />

Coll<strong>in</strong>s, and Marvel. Her artistic journey<br />

began with humble m<strong>in</strong>icomics, and her ascent<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world of comics has been noth<strong>in</strong>g<br />

short of remarkable.<br />

Cloonan’s collaborative work with Brian<br />

Wood on “Channel Zero: Jennie One” <strong>in</strong><br />

2003 marked <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ception of her rise <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>dustry. However, her breakthrough moment<br />

arrived with <strong>the</strong> critically acclaimed<br />

twelve-issue comic series “Demo” <strong>in</strong> 2004,<br />

aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> collaboration with Wood. This<br />

groundbreak<strong>in</strong>g work was not only named<br />

Wizard’s “Indie of <strong>the</strong> Year” but also garnered<br />

two Eisner Award nom<strong>in</strong>ations <strong>in</strong><br />

2005, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> categories of Best Limited Series<br />

and Best S<strong>in</strong>gle Issue.<br />

Beyond comics, Cloonan has extended<br />

her creative reach by contribut<strong>in</strong>g artwork<br />

for musical acts such as Leftover Crack and<br />

<strong>the</strong> hip-hop group Cunn<strong>in</strong>Lynguists. Her<br />

artistry knows no bounds, transcend<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

conf<strong>in</strong>es of <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ted page.<br />

Currently resid<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Montreal, Quebec,<br />

Canada, with her fiance, Becky Cloonan<br />

cont<strong>in</strong>ues to captivate audiences with her<br />

evocative storytell<strong>in</strong>g and breathtak<strong>in</strong>g illustrations.<br />

Her legacy as a trailblaz<strong>in</strong>g comic<br />

book creator is etched <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> annals of <strong>the</strong><br />

Her creative prowess cont<strong>in</strong>ued to flourish,<br />

lead<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> release of her first solo<br />

graphic novel, “East Coast Ris<strong>in</strong>g: Volume<br />

1,” published by Tokyopop <strong>in</strong> 2006. The<br />

graphic novel earned Cloonan her third Eisner<br />

Award nom<strong>in</strong>ation, this time for Best New<br />

Series <strong>in</strong> 2007.<br />

Cloonan’s versatility sh<strong>in</strong>es through her<br />

collaborations, notably with writer Steven T.<br />

Seagle on <strong>the</strong> Vertigo Comics series “American<br />

Virg<strong>in</strong>.” Her ability to weave compell<strong>in</strong>g<br />

narratives and create captivat<strong>in</strong>g visuals has<br />

made her a sought-after talent <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> comic<br />

book <strong>in</strong>dustry.<br />

One of her groundbreak<strong>in</strong>g achievements<br />

came <strong>in</strong> August 2012 when she became <strong>the</strong><br />

first woman to pencil an issue of <strong>the</strong> iconic<br />

“Batman.” This milestone not only underscored<br />

her talent but also broke down barriers<br />
