ROSEMARY BAUER Rosemary is a native Californian who in her words “had the good fortune” of coming from a military family. As a result, she moved around a lot during childhood, mostly within California, which provided the early inspiration for the style of art she enjoys making today. It all started when she took Art History as an elective in college and loved it. Rosemary had experimented with drawing and painting before taking the course, but at this point in time she knew art would always be part of her life. Beginning with neighborhood art classes, she went on to take work- shops with several prominent artists to continue to hone her skills. Rosemary has studied with local and internationally known artists she admires, including Marcia Burtt, Lo- renzo Chavez, Debra Joy Groesser, Albert Handell, Peggy Koll-Roberts, Kim Lordier and Ray Roberts. Acrylics or oils are Rosemary’s mediums of choice due to the texture that can be achieved. Although she often exper- iments with realism and abstraction, the primary body of work is impres- sionistic plein air painting especial- ly of scenic views of the central coast Overlooking the Barn, 11 x 14, Acrylic area of California further fine-tuned in her studio. Sometimes, animals, structures, or figures appear in her paintings for interest and variations. A major leap forward toward creating more harmonious paintings when she started to work “all over” the painting rather then working from top to bottom, or starting in one spot. Best advice? Stand back and view the painting from a distance frequently while working on it. Paintings are more impactful when not created under a microscope. For Rosemary, painting the land and sea outdoors has been a life-ling passion. 12
