Dubai is set to host The <strong>2023</strong> United<br />

Nations Climate Change Conference<br />

(COP28) from 30 November<br />

to 12 <strong>December</strong> <strong>2023</strong>, and for <strong>the</strong><br />

occassion, Alserkal Avenue will be br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g<br />

toge<strong>the</strong>r artists, change-makers, and <strong>the</strong> climate<br />

curious to create a space for susta<strong>in</strong>able<br />

development and cultural <strong>in</strong>novation,<br />

advocat<strong>in</strong>g that culture should not be an<br />

afterthought for policy makers.<br />

‘Melt<strong>in</strong>g Po<strong>in</strong>t” Climate-Related Exhibition<br />

Julian Charrière:<br />

‘Melt<strong>in</strong>g Po<strong>in</strong>t’, on view at Project <strong>Space</strong><br />

(Warehouse 50) from 1 <strong>December</strong> to 6 January,<br />

br<strong>in</strong>gs to light rarely seen perspectives<br />

of our planet’s polar regions. Rais<strong>in</strong>g climate<br />

awareness, <strong>the</strong> exhibition is a partnership<br />

between Alserkal Initiatives; a socially responsible<br />

cultural enterprise, Art of Change<br />

21; a non-profit organisation on art & environment<br />

that has played a key role dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

each COP, and Julian Charrière, a renowned<br />

and emblematic climate-engaged artist.<br />

2 Week Plastic-Free Dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g Water<br />

Campaign with WAYOUT The ‘Plastic-Free<br />

Dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g Water’ campaign (30 November to<br />

13 <strong>December</strong>) will prohibit s<strong>in</strong>gle-use plastic<br />

bottles at <strong>the</strong> Avenue. The <strong>in</strong>itiative, by <strong>in</strong>novative<br />

water-tech company, and Avenue resident,<br />

WAYOUT Water, will ask visitors to drop<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir plastic bottles at designated collection<br />

po<strong>in</strong>ts, which will be weighed and recycled<br />

to provide tangible data on <strong>the</strong> campaign’s<br />

impact. Refillable bottles will be available<br />

WAYOUT (Warehouse 56), and visitors can<br />

also refill <strong>the</strong>ir bottles at Le Guepard, Carbon<br />

12, and Chalk, who will each be serv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

plastic-free dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g water, locally produced<br />

is <strong>the</strong> impressive central <strong>in</strong>stallation <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

current exhibition by Rashid Rana, on view<br />

until 3 February, that, whilst look<strong>in</strong>g like a<br />

seascape, upon closer <strong>in</strong>spection reveals to<br />

be photographs of heaps of garbage.<br />
