Most are using the pathway respectful of walkers but the ones that are not really should have some guidelines. I believe all cyclists should have a maximum speed limit and use a bell to alert walkers of their approach. Single file at all times should be the rule. If walkers and cyclists are respectful of each other, everyone gains. It is very poor this was not considered before now. Why is it there has to be near misses before anything is done. -Rita Beesley Simple rule. If the old country road rules were observed, bikers on the left, walkers / runners on the right, runners/ walkers can see on coming cyclists. -Murrary and Bronie Johnston I have seen a collision between a peloton of road bikes and a small dog on a leash on the Coastal Pathway as well as a number of close calls with wheelchairs and walkers. It is very clear that clear rules such as a speed limit and a separation of bikes and other users such as a centre line is essential to avoid serious accidents. -Duncan Currie I empathise and agree with those who find cyclists on the Coastal Pathway a hazard. Families with kids on bikes use the pathway, they’re never travelling at speed and at risk of harming others. I have two young babies, a dog and my partner – I find the cyclists up and down the Coastal Pathway infuriating.
