THE GOOD NEWS
J A N U A R Y 2 0 2 4
With all the despair
around the world, the question
gets asked: ‘Does anyone
care?’ Yes! Someone does
care. Two
words in the
Bible make
this vividly
clear: “Jesus
wept” (John
11:35). The
shortest verse in the Bible
speaks volumes about the
love of Jesus!
Have you ever cried?
Perhaps at the funeral of a
loved one or a friend? Maybe
you wept at a grievous disappointment?
Scholars have
read the sayings of Jesus carefully.
Did He ever laugh? Did
He smile? The Bible does not
openly give a record that He
laughed or smiled. But three
times, the Bible says that Jesus
cried, all
because He
cares!
The first time
we read
about Jesus
crying is for the city that He
loved: Jerusalem. That city
had been a world-class city
for a long time, filled with
many people! Jesus cared so
much for the people of the
town that he was moved to
tears. It says in Luke 19:41,
“as He approached Jerusalem
and saw the city, He wept
over it”.

We also find Jesus crying when
His friend Lazarus died. No one
cares for friends more than Jesus! In
John 11:34, Jesus asks. “Where have
you laid him?” The Bible continues
“‘Come and see, Lord’ they replied.
Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, ‘See
how He loved Him!’”
Finally, Jesus wept to His Father
as He went to the cross. The
most extreme punishment was
death by crucifixion. Beyond the
physical agony of the cross, our sin
was placed upon Jesus. It was the
most intense, arduous, horrific
event in history. Hebrews 5:5-7 says
that Christ “…offered up prayers and
petitions with fervent cries and
tears to the One who could save
Him from death…”
This world is full of hatred,
selfishness, and anger. People often
mistreat others. Sometimes it may
seem that no one cares. But Jesus
cares for everyone. He cares for
you. He cares so much that He died
on the cross for you.
The most famous verse in the
Bible is John 3:16. It is only 25
words in length, but it tells how
much God cares! “For God so loved
the world that He gave His one and
only Son, that whoever believes in
Him shall not perish but have eternal
life.” Would you like to know Jesus
as your personal Saviour?
The Bible says that everyone
has a problem: sin. “For all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of
God” (Romans 3:23).
There is a penalty for that sin:
death. “For the wages of sin is
death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our
Lord” (Romans 6:23).
This penalty has been paid: by
Jesus. “But God demonstrates His
own love for us in this: while we
were still sinners, Christ died for
us” (Romans 5:8).
The Bible says that a person
must turn to the Saviour and repent.
“If you declare with your mouth,
‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your
heart that God raised Him from the
dead, you will be saved” (Romans
10:9).

time for that later’. Little
did she realise when she
spoke those words that
she was only hours from
eternity.
A girl called Mary
was 19 years old. She was
invited to hear an evangelist
who preached about
how to be saved. “I don’t
have time for that now”
she said. “Besides, there’ll
be plenty of time for that
later”.
The next night, during
another one of those
meetings, Mary’s car skidded
out of control and
slammed into another car.
She died instantly.
‘I don’t have time
for that now’. Fearful
words! No time to think
about God, or death, or
judgement, or eternity, or
her soul!
Time is a precious
gift from God, but it
comes with no guarantees.
The Bible compares
our life span to a blade of
grass, a vapour, and a
shadow.
Listen to the wise
prayer of Moses: “So
teach us to number our
days, that we may gain a
heart of wisdom” (Psalm
90:12).
God’s Warning —
“And as it is appointed for
men to die once, but after
this the judgement”
(Hebrews 9:27).
Life is uncertain. Death is
often sudden. This may be
the last gospel tract you
will read.
“Jesus Christ is
God’s way to
Heaven. He
saves all who
receive Him”
‘There’ll be plenty of
“Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may
bring forth” (Proverbs 27:1). Someday it
will be too late for you to be saved.
When loved ones weep beside your
casket, where will your soul be?
That depends on what you do
with the Lord Jesus Christ. He loves
you. He “gave Himself a ransom for
all” (I Timothy 2:6). Then He arose
again that He might save you.
Jesus Christ is God’s way to Heaven.
He saves all “those who come to
God through Him” (Hebrews 7:25). You
can be saved now by receiving Him. Do
so now. Pray this prayer.
I realize I am a sinner. I know
someday it will be too late for me to be
saved. I now receive the Lord Jesus. By
His help, I intend to live for Him and
confess Him before others.
“For there is one God and one
Mediator between God and men, the
Man Christ Jesus” (I Timothy 2:5).
