2024 Head
Students
The newly appointed 2024 prefect team all recognise
the vast array of opportunities at Burnside High
School and have each made the most of their time in
the junior divisions. Head Prefect Daniel Lough has
enjoyed taking on many of these experiences, meeting
new people and learning new skills throughout his
time here. “I have been able to travel around NZ with
school teams for cross-country and football. I have
also tried new things like competing in Mathematics
and Economics competitions, debating at the Model
EU Forum, playing in a band, and taking on a sport
I had never played before”. Through this role he is
excited to bring many different groups together from
across the school, and to encourage students to get
involved in the amazing experiences Burnside has to
offer.
Head Prefect Emma Boswell is constantly amazed by
the amount of opportunities available to the students
at Burnside High School. She is heavily involved
in the Drama Department including Drama Club,
the Sheilah Winn competition, Showquest and has
done Theatresports in the past. “I feel so honoured
to be a part of a school that offers such incredible
opportunities. Through taking part in a variety of
activities I have been able to meet amazing people
whom I’ve really enjoyed getting to know. I love
learning about people and am in awe of the inclusivity
of people at Burnside High School”. She is excited for
next year to welcome the new students and hopes to
be a role model for students around the school.
Deputy Head Prefect Sebastian Enoka enjoys
making the most of Burnside High School’s nurturing
atmosphere through goal setting and being in a team
environment. He has been involved in both sports
and music playing junior cricket and as a member
of the Senior Boys Basketball team and being in
the Contemporary Band. He has had the ability to
collaborate with a vast array of students from different
backgrounds and interests. “I am super excited to
be a part of this group and to work with the wider
senior leadership team. I hope to positively contribute
to our school as a team player, be a good example
for younger students, and I look forward to getting
to know a wide range of people from multiple year
levels”.
Deputy Head Prefect Saissha Gupta believes that
Burnside’s large size allows for many students to
achieve well academically and demonstrate a wide
range of leadership qualities and strengths. “I believe
that my dedication to education has been supported
by the numerous academic programs that are on offer.”
Transitioning from her role as a North Prefect in 2023
to Deputy Head Prefect this year, she anticipates the
opportunity to connect with fellow leaders in the
OneSchools network across Canterbury. “Within the
Burnside community, I hope other students will see
me as a familiar face who can turn to for help, advice
or just a fun chat.” She wishes to serve as a role model
for other students and encourage them to take full
advantage of the resources Burnside High School
provides to unlock their full potential.
