The Memphis Chapter of American Harp
Society entertained Nicanor Zabaleta when
he appeared as guest artist with the Memphis
Symphony Orchestra on February 16
and 18. Among the events was a coffee
given by Jane Doughtie in her home on
Monday afternoon, February 17. Later, the
chapter took Mr. Zabaleta to dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Cobb (Ruth)
honored Mr. Zabaleta, Mr. Vincent de
Frank, conductor, and all the members of
the Memphis Symphony at a buffet supper
at the Top-of-the-100 Club in Memphis.
Street, Midland, Michigan 48640.
Our chapter's first Harp Society meeting
was held February 23, 1969 at the home
of Mrs. Mary Mintz. Since the organizer
of our chapter, Mrs. Marion Rosenson, recently
died, we discussed, as a memorial, to
raise money to pay for a new harp which
she had purchased soon before her death.
We would then present it to the Saginaw
Symphony.
A small business meeting was held and
we agreed upon the fees for membership
in the local chapter. We officially changed
our name to the Saginaw Valley Chapter
to encompass a larger area.
Entertainment was provided by Miss
Sarah Noble and Miss Anita Stark, both
playing solos by Naderman. Refreshments
were served by the hostess. The next meeting
was set for May 18, 1969.
Concerts; on March 6th the Oklahoma
A.H.S. Chapter presented Longstreth and
Escosa, duo-harpists, in concert at Oklahoma
City's Park Avenue Y.W.C.A. Auditorium
and March 9th and 10th will find
Zabaleta in nearby Wichita, Kansas.
In addition to our members being able
to enjoy such a feast of professional performances,
our own Chapter has had a very
active season as a glance at our calendar
shows:
September: Registration and report by the
Chapter's three delegates to the 1968
supper.
