Waireka Croquet Club
Agood haul of medals for players from
Waireka Croquet Club who attended the NZ
Master’s Tournament in Dunedin. Twelve
players played golf croquet and one association
croquet. Colin Lamb won abronze medal
in the golf croquet singles section 3; Phyllis
Reith, Pauline Scott, bronze medal golf
croquet doubles section 2; Pat Allnutt, Bill
Allnutt, silver medal golf croquet doubles
section 2; Audrey Leath, silver medal golf
croquet singles section 4; Sue Whyte, gold
medal golf croquet singles section 7; David
Galvin, gold medal golf croquet singles section
1; and Gail Benseman, silver medal association
croquet doubles, gold medal masters quiz.
Ashburton Horticultural Society
President Joy welcomed seven members
to our February meeting held in Linton
Lounge, Ashburton RSA. One member was
attending the National South Island Dahlia
show at Waikouaiti on February 17. Table
show results – Great Table Show with 4
exhibitors presenting 57 entries, Jono Johnston
– 8 firsts, 5 seconds, 1 third, John
Hoogweg –8,6,0,Joy Jaine –7,4,3and Cyril
Keen –3,3,4.Premier Award: Joint winners
-John Hoogweg –Class 21 –Miniature or
small decorative dahlia 3 blooms under
150mm & John Johnson – Class 19 – 3
blooms ball dahlia. Raffle was won by: Mary
McCosker. The afternoon concluded with
afternoon tea. Next meeting will be on March
15 at 2pm in Linton Lounge, Ashburton RSA.

Ashburton Bowling Club
The Ashburton men’s Championship
Triples Final was played on February 15 and
was avery tight match. It was won by Min Hill’s
team with Peter Collins and Alastair Mackenzie.
Congratulations to them and also to the
gallant losers of Gavin Eder’s team. Well
played everyone! The Ashburton ladies
Championship Triples Final will be played
today at 9.am. This long awaited final will be
contested by Diane’s team –Laraine and Kath
Muir against Leonie’s team – Barbara and
Wendy. Good luck ladies! The remaining two
ladies Championship Pairs quarter finals,
weather permitting will have been played on
Tuesday - more next week. The Ladies
Championship Fours Final is still in abeyance.
And our Ladies Drawn Pairs Competition
scheduled for February 27 may make way for
the progression of our championship pairs.
Our Saturday Rollover Triples attracted a
moderate attendance with two visitors from
Auckland, Karen and Mike. The placings are:
1st 2wins, 10 ends, 19 points TWatson, N
Stuthridge, JKewish, 2nd 1win, 2draws, 12
ends, 17 points CBird, Karen, CCorbett and
3rd 1win, 1draw, 11 ends, 17 points WLee,
AGibbs, Mike.
Another reminder of our new initiative –
Twilight Bowls –for new bowlers is under way!
It is on Friday evenings. Up to adozen have
been coming along and having fun. We are
lucky to be sponsored by Tarbotton Land and
Civil which is great! The evening finishes with
aBBQ and prizes. Please contact president

along!
The postponed Inhouse comps, the Dorothy
Cup (sponsored by Time for Diamonds)
and the Murray Gray, have been combined
with the Bird Cup and will be played on our
closing day on March 24. The format has been
notified to all our membership. Social Hour
continues on Friday evenings as usual. And
our friends from Hampstead Bowling Club are
still part of our club. Good bowling everyone!
Ashburton MSA Petanque Club
During the week we hosted Timaru Club
for asocial day. We played drawn games and
everyone kept their own score. The top eight
players from Ashburton earned 474 points and
Timaru earned 447 points. Top scorer for
Ashburton was Adelys Taraunu with 75 points,
and Ross Greene from Timaru had 72 points.
This event was last held in 2017. On Saturday
we held our men's and women's shooting
contests. The men's was won by Adelys
Taraunu with 33 points, and the women's by
Karen Bensdorp with 21 points. Ten players
took part in this. You are still welcome to join
us on Tuesday and Thursday before 1p.m.
Saturday the time is the same and you may
like to make this afamily day. You would all be
welcome.
RESULTS
Tinwald Cycling Club
Para cyclist Jono Nelson claimed the major
spoils in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, ANZCO Foods,
48km handicap event around the Grahams Road
block on Sunday. Starting of the front mark,
Nelson didn’t let off, powering his way to victory
to lift the McElhinney Trophy. The back markers
stormed through the field to claim with minor
prizes. Kyle Gray backed up last weeks win with
second place and fastest time honours, riding the
distance in 64.15. Michael Audeau was hot on his
tail in third place and secured second time. The
juniors and division 2contested a16km handicap
race. Louie Audeau produced astrong ride to
take the victors spoils in the junior event. He was
pushed to the line by second place getter Jack
Hooper. Oscar Gorrie who was caught in the
shadow of the line was rewarded with third place.
Big Brother Jack Gorrie took fastest time
honours, riding the course in 26.54. Brian Ellis
had the final say in division 2totake the win from
Graham McDougall, and Alan Johns. Next week
the club will travel to Hinds to contest a50km
handicap event.
Run and Walk Ashburton
Another successful week of running and
walking. Over 80 participants enjoyed the balmy
evening, with some taking time off last week's
event. The children have shone and have
enjoyed their run/walk. The one kilometre track
around the Ashburton Domain gives participants
the option of doing 1; 3; or 5kilometres. Some of
the children have completed the 3kms in very
good times. This week was the final week of the
Summer Series 2024. Ahuge thank you and
shout out to the sponsors.

this week. 1st, 18 holes, Marilyn Cross (81); 2nd,

countback from 4th, Marilyn Bennett (73). 1st, 9
holes, Muriel Morgan (43); 2nd Helen Hargreaves
(41). Tinwald Supervalue longest putt on
#9 was won by Heather Robertson. Nearest to
the Pin on #4, Daphne McDonnell; #8 &#12,
Marilyn Bennett and #14, Marilyn Cross. Gobblers
were scored by Chris Anderson, Joan Undy
