‘‘We’re very grateful to Owen
Moore and the team at the
Hospice Mid Canterbury and Nurse
Maude have received equal shares of
$6821 which was raised at
Ashburton’s Farmers store leading in
to Christmaslast year.
Farmers ChristmasCampaign
nationally raised about $930,000 for
‘
hospices,byselling limited edition
Christmasbaubles and accepting
donations left at Trees of
Remembrance in each store.
Hospice Mid Canterbury outreach
coordinator Fiona Giles said
Farmers staffonce again had been
incredible ambassadors for
Hospice Mid Canterbury, not
only helpingtoraise funds,
but alsohelping the
community better
understand the work it did.
‘‘The donation will enable
us to continue supporting
clients in the district to
make the most of every day
in whateverway they
choose, such as with
counselling, massage,
biography service and by
takingpart in the activities
programme,’’ Giles said.
NurseMaude Hospice
palliative care core service
manager Jane Rollings said
receivingthe funding from
the fundraiser was huge.
‘‘We can’t do what we do without
the community support. We have to
fundraise for so much that we
provide. The money from Farmers
will go towards our core services.
‘‘We provide an inpatient facility in
Christchurch, support, education and
advice to age care facilities in
Ashburton as well as inhome care in
Mid Canterbury,’’ Rollings said.
‘‘It is great we can collaborate with
Hospice who can provide those
extras which are so nice but we can’t
do it.
‘‘We could if we were better funded
so the funds we raise could go to
these types of things,’’she said.
going for ten years, nationally raising
almost $8 million. During this time
Hospice Mid Canterbury has
received $22,356, which goes directly
towards providing free services in
HAVE YOUR SAY ON ELECTION INQUIRY
Rangitata MP James Meager is chairing an inquiry into the 2023
General Election, in his role as chair of the government’s justice
committee. By convention, the justice committee holds an inquiry into
each election to look into the administration and conduct of the
election, and also electoral laws. It is then up to Parliament to decide
what changes, ifany, should be made before the next election. ‘‘We look
forward to hearing people’s views on their experiences of the election,’’
Meagersaid. Anyone with an interest in improving the electoral system
can make asubmission, by the deadline of April 15, via the Parliament
website orbycontacting justice@parliament.govt.nz
