SAFE RIDING: The city council is proposing to add three new road crossings to the City to Sea Pathway.
Safe crossings for shared path
THREE SAFE new road crossings
are planned along the route of the
City to Sea Pathway
Community feedback has
opened on the proposals which
are part of the pathway, a planned
11-kilometre walking and cycling
path following the course of the
Ōtākaro Avon River from Oxford
Tce to Pages Rd, New Brighton.
The pathwat will be constructed
in three stages:
European
Car Owners
NEW DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT!
• Western section – from
Fitzgerald Ave to Kerrs Rd.
• Eastern section – from Kerrs
Rd to Wainoni Rd.
• Wainoni to Waitaki section –
from Wainoni Rd to Pages Rd.
The western section will be
constructed first and includes
three new road crossings on
Stanmore Rd, Swanns Rd and
Gayhurst Rd.
The community will be able
HIKING BOOTS
& SHOES
to view details of the planned
crossings and give feedback until
March 24. Staff will also be at two
community events where people
can see the plans, ask questions,
and give feedback in person.
The events include a community
drop-in at Dallington
Landing on Saturday from 10amnoon,
and the Richmond Gala at
Avebury House on March 23 from
10am-2pm.
Dave Little, Red zone manager,
said the pathway is expected to be
popular.
“We’ve heard from the
community that they currently feel
unsafe when crossing some of the
roads, due to poor visibility, high
speeds, and no dedicated crossing
points.”
The crossings will lower speeds
and make it safer for pathway
users, Little said.
Coastguard
fundraising
for new
permanent
premises
COASTGUARD Canterbury is
fundraising for new headquarters
after years of temporary
buildings.
The February 22, 2011
earthquake damaged the
Lyttelton-based organisation’s
Naval Point building. It was
demolished last year ahead of
SailGP.
Since then, the coastguard
has been based in temporary
accommodation in portacoms at
the Naval Point public jetty.
The city council, community
and iwi have had input on the
design and location of the new
building, near the public slipway.
The new headquarters will
feature meeting and training
rooms. There will also be a radio
room with a harbour lookout.
Secure storage for the rescue boat
and trailer will be installed.
