Western Sydney University students honoured with prestigious scholarships<br />

Nine Western Sydney<br />
University (WSU) students<br />
have been recognised<br />
for their passion to drive positive<br />
change within the technology<br />
sector with a prestigious scholarship.<br />
Awarded to those undertaking<br />
STEM related degrees, the <strong>2024</strong><br />
Westpac Young Technologists<br />
scholarships, valued at up to $20,000<br />
each, are given to those determined<br />
to inspire good in the field.<br />
Studying in <strong>Parra</strong>matta, Bachelor<br />
of Cyber Security and Behaviour<br />
student Kyriaki Dasaklis is one of<br />
the WSU students who has received<br />
Westpac Young Technologist Scholarship.<br />
She said the scholarship will help<br />
her to work towards a meaningful<br />
career in enhancing Australia’s<br />
cyber protection.<br />
“Receiving this scholarship<br />
fills me with immense pride and<br />
gratitude. It serves as a powerful<br />
motivator that someone believes in<br />
my potential and is willing to invest<br />
in my future,” Dasaklis said.<br />
“This scholarship not only grants<br />
me the financial freedom to pursue<br />
my university education. Beyond<br />
that, it presents opportunities to<br />
forge lifelong friendships and gain<br />
valuable experiences that will<br />
support future career prospects.”<br />
The Westpac Young Technologist<br />
Scholars will now travel to<br />
Singapore for a four-day Disruptive<br />
Leaders Program to gain a better<br />
understanding of the current technological<br />
landscape and how technology<br />
can be harnessed to tackle<br />
the most pressing global challenges<br />
faced today.<br />
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)<br />
(Advanced Manufacturing Engineering)<br />
and fellow <strong>Parra</strong>matta-based<br />
student Oisin Chretien was<br />
also awarded the Westpac Young<br />
Technologists Scholarship.<br />
He’s now looking forward to<br />
unlocking all the opportunities the<br />
scholarship will present.<br />
“I believe that receiving this scholarship<br />
will pave the way, creating<br />
a new journey in my life,” Chretien<br />
added.<br />
“I hope that with this opportunity,<br />
I can share ideas with like-minded<br />
people, while also broadening my<br />
perspectives.<br />
“I am looking forward to gaining<br />

leadership skills that will be useful<br />
in all aspects of my life.”<br />
The other WSU students who were<br />
named the <strong>2024</strong> Westpac Young<br />
Technologists include Aryaman<br />
Chaudhary, Jazlyn Singh, Luke<br />
Brennan, Vaneel Chetty and<br />
Vaughan Todd.<br />
WSU students Aimee Kim<br />
Lawson and Parwin Taqawi were<br />
also awarded the Westpac Asian<br />
Exchange Scholarship, valued at<br />
$12,700 each.<br />
It will see them pursue an immersive<br />
international education experience,<br />
over two semesters, in one of<br />
six destinations in Asia including<br />
mainland China, Hong Kong,<br />

Singapore, Japan, South Korea and<br />
Taiwan.<br />
WSU is one of a select number of<br />
universities who partner with Westpac<br />
Scholars Trust to award over $4<br />
million in scholarships each year,<br />
recognising exceptional students<br />
and helping them reach their full<br />
potential.<br />
