Tech talent of the future
Western Sydney University students honoured with prestigious scholarships

Nine Western Sydney
University (WSU) students
have been recognised
for their passion to drive positive
change within the technology
sector with a prestigious scholarship.
Awarded to those undertaking
STEM related degrees, the 2024
Westpac Young Technologists
scholarships, valued at up to $20,000
each, are given to those determined
to inspire good in the field.
Studying in Parramatta, Bachelor
of Cyber Security and Behaviour
student Kyriaki Dasaklis is one of
the WSU students who has received
Westpac Young Technologist Scholarship.
She said the scholarship will help
her to work towards a meaningful
career in enhancing Australia’s
cyber protection.
“Receiving this scholarship
fills me with immense pride and
gratitude. It serves as a powerful
motivator that someone believes in
my potential and is willing to invest
in my future,” Dasaklis said.
“This scholarship not only grants
me the financial freedom to pursue
my university education. Beyond
that, it presents opportunities to
forge lifelong friendships and gain
valuable experiences that will
support future career prospects.”
The Westpac Young Technologist
Scholars will now travel to
Singapore for a four-day Disruptive
Leaders Program to gain a better
understanding of the current technological
landscape and how technology
can be harnessed to tackle
the most pressing global challenges
faced today.
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
(Advanced Manufacturing Engineering)
and fellow Parramatta-based
student Oisin Chretien was
also awarded the Westpac Young
Technologists Scholarship.
He’s now looking forward to
unlocking all the opportunities the
scholarship will present.
“I believe that receiving this scholarship
will pave the way, creating
a new journey in my life,” Chretien
added.
“I hope that with this opportunity,
I can share ideas with like-minded
people, while also broadening my
perspectives.
“I am looking forward to gaining

leadership skills that will be useful
in all aspects of my life.”
The other WSU students who were
named the 2024 Westpac Young
Technologists include Aryaman
Chaudhary, Jazlyn Singh, Luke
Brennan, Vaneel Chetty and
Vaughan Todd.
WSU students Aimee Kim
Lawson and Parwin Taqawi were
also awarded the Westpac Asian
Exchange Scholarship, valued at
$12,700 each.
It will see them pursue an immersive
international education experience,
over two semesters, in one of
six destinations in Asia including
mainland China, Hong Kong,

Singapore, Japan, South Korea and
Taiwan.
WSU is one of a select number of
universities who partner with Westpac
Scholars Trust to award over $4
million in scholarships each year,
recognising exceptional students
and helping them reach their full
potential.
