Henry Ford was born in Wayne County, Michigan on July 30, 1863, the son of an Irish immigrant father.<br />

Young Ford showed an early interest in mechanics, constucting his first steam engine at age 15 and a<br />

small, one-cylinder, internal combustion engine just four years later. Ford's innovations in mass<br />

production of cars to promote mass ownership led to high-speed manufacturing and ultimately sparked<br />

the 20th century industrial revolution. In 1919 Edsel Ford succeeded his father as President of the Ford<br />

Motor Company. When Edsel died in 1943, Henry Ford resumed the presidency for two years until his<br />

grandson, Henry Ford II could take the helm. Henry lived quietly with his wife Clara until he died on April<br />

developed the incandescent, light, the motion picture camera, the microphone, and more than 1,000<br />

other devices. Edison died on October 18, 1931.<br />
