This month at the
Methven Heritage
Centre Art Gallery
we are pleased to present
the first solo exhibition by
Christchurch artist, Katrina
McGettigan.
The artist, Katrina McGettigan is originally from Methven but
now lives in Christchurch. By day Katrina works fulltime as a
preschool teacher and atellerista (art teacher) at Selwyn House
Preschool, inspiring young artists to fulfill their artistic talent.
Katrina began painting at a very young age and has been
producing outstanding acrylic works professionally for more than
five years.
Her work has previously been exhibited at the Methven Heritage
‘Cash and Carry’ exhibition, Wai Restaurant in Queenstown, Popup
Gallery in Sumner, the Ashburton Annual Art Exhibition, and
the Ice House Gallery in Methven. Her paintings are becoming
more and more sought-after and she regularly receives
commissions from art buyers who love her work. The scores of
paintings she has sold are now hanging in homes around New
Zealand, Austrailia, and Europe.
‘Nga Tae Tokerau’ will feature a striking series of Mid Canterbury
mountain landscapes, native NZ birds, and autumn scenes.
Katrina is being supported by other talented family members
during her exhibition opening, with sister Alana offering guests
a special Gewurtztraminer wine of her own blend and brother
Joshua providing the music.
Alana McGettigan has been working in the wine industry since
2002 and has experience in NZ, Australia, France and Italy.
She continues to work extensively in Marlborough and Italy
and has developed a strong passion for aromatic white wines.
Fortunately, in 2011 she found the opportunity to start her own
label, Lani, using Gewurztraminer grapes from a family vineyard
in Marlborough.
Joshua McGettigan is a part-time musician, full-time
environmental lawyer, currently based in Wellington. He has
played in various original and cover bands of a range of sizes,
such as the Christchurch School of Music Stage Jazz Band,
The Lazy Greyhounds, and the Harrison Stage Band. He
also organised and performed in the variety night of formerly
Dunedin-based singersongwriters, ‘Love, Dunedin’, and most
recently composed the theme song for a 48 hour film festival film.
Guests attending the Friday night opening of this talented young
artist’s first solo exhibition can expect an entertaining evening!
The exhibition at the Methven Heritage Centre Art Gallery is open
daily from 9am - 5pm from Saturday the 9th June.
