LUNCH PROGRAM NEWS The lunch program reminds you that the second payment is due for January 1 st . Please send in your payment as soon as possible. The BWCS lunch program advises payments to be made by cheque as we are not responsible for lost or stolen money. The lunch program is accepting applications/resumes for lunch supervision in the New Year. The program is hiring full-time supervisors (Monday-Friday 11:25-1245) as well as spares. Have little ones not in school yet? We have volunteer certified student babysitters available for the lunch hour. Application/resume deadline is January 8, 2013. Only those applicants considered for interviews will be contacted. Sincerely, Tera Wood and Teresa Cripps Ambassador News Just a reminder, there will be a bake sale to fundraise for our African School project on December 21 st . We will have bake sales on pizza day and the items will range from $0.50 to $1.00. So far BWCS students have raised $325.00 towards clean water project. Community Connector News My name is Allison Cole and I am the new community connector for Bernie Wolfe Community School. I am very excited to tell you that our Stay & Play program has started up again. It is a free program for parents and caregivers with their children from birth to five years old. It is a great way to meet other families in our community while the children play, make a craft, enjoy a healthy snack, read and sing songs. Stay & Play runs Thursday mornings from 9-11 a.m. in the parent room and it will start up after the winter break on January 10 th . I hope to see you there! Registration for the winter Kinderlinks pre-school programs is underway! There is a copy on the bulletin board outside the parent room and copies of the Kinderlinks newsletter in the parent room that you can take and you can also view it online at pre-school@retsd.mb.ca There are all kinds of ways to volunteer in the school and we really appreciate all that you do to help! If you would like to volunteer at Bernie Wolfe School, please come by and see me in the parent room for a child abuse registry form to fill out or email me at acole@retsd.mb.ca and I will send one to your child’s homeroom teacher. Happy Holidays! Allison Cole Community Connector Babysitter Training If you child is 12 years old, you will be excited to hear about our babysitting course! Safety services will be at Bernie Wolfe School on Wednesday January 16 th from 3-7 p.m. offering a 4 hour babysitting course. The cost is $30.00 per student. The cost covers the student book and instruction time. *Eleven year olds that will turn 12 this calendar year will be accepted, but will not receive a certificate until they turn 12. Manitoba requires all babysitters to be 12 years of age. The course includes four parts: 1. Four hours of classroom instruction including changing diapers, feeding and burping baby, how to help toddlers who are being potty trained and what is appropriate play for each age group. The course also discusses home emergencies (fire, smoke, gas leaks, etc.) 2. Pass a test with 70% or more at the end of the class. 3. Do four hours of supervised practical experience, then mail the form to the trainer of the course. The student must pass with 80% or more. 4. Receive the certificate for the babysitting course. Once the practical experience is mailed to the trainer, the trainer will mail the certificate to the student who is already 12. There is a maximum of 12 students in the class.
