Library News The book fair was a huge success! Our library will receive dozens of new books, which all students will be able to enjoy. A grade one student won $25.00 towards books for herself and $25.00 for her classroom. We love seeing the excitement on the faces of students as they see the library transform into the book fair. Thank you to all that supported the fair! If you would like to help cover or shelve books, it would be greatly appreciated. Please see Mrs. Hepworth or myself, in the library. We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season, and of course keep reading! Nicole Ziemianski & Lynn Hepworth News from the Counsellor Confidential counselling services are available to all BWCS students from K-8. If you would like more information about counselling services please check out the website or call me at the school. I can also provide you with outside resources and contact numbers. Currently I am running several small groups. If you feel your child would benefit from taking part in a small group on Friendship, Anger Management, Separation and Divorce please call or email me. “Because I am a Girl Plan Canada” raised $ 77.00. Thank you to Jade, Sydnee and Talya for their assistance with this fundraiser. Did you know that Healthy Child Manitoba has a free tip line for parents? Call 204-945-4777 in Winnipeg to speak to a trained counsellor for confidential help with your parenting challenges. BWCS is also involved in collecting new or gently used mittens and gloves for the Plessis Robson Family Centre. Please bring these items to the LAR on or before December 20, 2011 so they can be delivered before the winter break. PAC NEWS The Parent Council would like to start off by thanking Debbie Kutzan for all her hard work and dedication to Bernie Wolfe School and the P.A.C committee. As you all know, Debbie has resigned her position as the Community Connector from our school. She has helped us in many ways and the Parent Council would like to give a HUGE thanks for all her time and support. It is greatly appreciated!! We would like to welcome Allison Cole as our new Community Connector. Allison will still be involved in P.A.C. as our treasurer and we look forward to continue working together!! We would like to also thank all of our families/participants for supporting us in our fall fundraiser. We had over 100 orders placed and our profits were $550.00. This is a great way to start off the school year and it helps us provide Bernie Wolfe with fun school events such as Meet The Teacher BBQ & Family Fun Night. One quick reminder, Pizza Day is on Friday December 21, 2012. This pizza lunch is in support of the Ski Trip. Our next P.A.C. meeting will be held on January 15 th at 6:00 p.m. All are welcomed to attend. Hope to see you there. Thanks and on behalf of The Parent Council “Have a Safe & Happy Holiday Season!!!” TPUE NEWS I am pleased to give you an update on the program since the beginning of the school year. We are very excited to have all positions filled on our board this year with energetic parents planning activities for the children enrolled in the Ukrainian bilingual program, and to offer support to the teachers as needed. Our goal is to make our childrens’ education of the Ukrainian language and culture a great memory they will have for years to come. We would like to remind all parents that you DO NOT need to come from a Ukrainian back-ground or even speak the language for your children to be part of the program. Kindergarten children have a great opportunity to test out the program as it is a great introduction for a very small part of their day, and it is still not too late for the 2012- 2013 school year to do so. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Melnyk our wonderful grade k-2 teacher at omelnyk@retsd.md.ca or by phone at the school. She begins creating the foundation of a great education in a very small class setting. Most children really enjoy the smaller group, which builds great friendships, and allows the teachers to work more one on one with children. Mr. Marynovskyy (grades 3-5) and Mr. Iwan (grades 6-8) continue with their education. Grade one enrollment is very much still encouraged. Mrs. Melnyk has also found children that begin in grade one, are successful and catch on quickly. Currently we are busy planning our St. Nicholas celebration. We are expecting his visit on December 19 th at 12:30 p.m., we are planning a perogy lunch and the children will perform for him in the theatre. We are inviting some of the younger children in the school to enjoy St. Nicholas’ visit with us and to enjoy the performance. We would like to extend our invitation to all families in the Bernie Wolfe Community who are interested in our celebration to come and experience what St. Nicholas is all about, and it is always nice to encourage the kids with our support no matter what ethnic back ground you are proudly a part of, we are part of a community.
