“The quality of the academic staff is one of the most important components in<br />
assuring the quality of higher education and thus every effort must be made to<br />
establish proper and effective recruitment, service, development and appraisal<br />
policies that are conducive to staff productivity” (COPPA, 2008, pp.21).<br />
RECRUITMENT <strong>AND</strong> MANAGEMENT<br />
The following sections provide benchmarked requirements for the various levels of<br />
the Art and Design qualifications and are divided into two main sections which are<br />
Recruitment and Management and Service Development.<br />
The recruitment and management of the staff is crucial in making sure there are<br />
sufficient numbers of staff with appropriate qualification to deliver the curriculum<br />
effectively. In addition, service development through various training programmes is<br />
important to maintain and develop an academic staff that is of quality.<br />
1. TEACHING QUALIFICATION<br />
CERTIFICATE<br />
i. A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field<br />
OR<br />
ii. A Diploma with a minimum of two years of relevant industrial experience<br />
or that is professionally certified in a relevant area (The programme should<br />
not employ more than 30% of the staff in this category).<br />
OR<br />
iii. Subject expert / specialist recognised by the institution<br />
