Carlos Rogers brought veteran experience to the
49ers in 2011, after spending his first six NFL seasons
as a member of the Washington Redskins. Rogers
earned 2nd Team AP All-Pro honors and his
first Pro Bowl selection as a starter in 2011, as he
started every game, recording 57 tackles and six
interceptions, which tied for second most interceptions
in the NFL. The 49ers re-signed Rogers to a four-year contract
on 3/16/12, through the 2015 season.
// 2012 HIGHLIGHTS
• Tallied 3 FRs this season, t-6th most in the NFL.
• Recorded first career sack in season opener at GB (9/9), taking
down QB Aaron Rodgers on 3rd down in the 1st qtr.
• Recovered fumble by RB Toby Gerhart at Min. (9/23) in 4th qtr.
• Was part of defense that held NYJ (9/30) to 145 total yds. on offense
and just 45 yds. rushing in 34-0 road win. The defensive unit
recorded 3.0 sacks, 3 FRs and 1 TD.
• Scored 3rd career TD on a 51-yd. fumble return at NYJ (9/30), which
was his 2nd FR of the game, also a career-high.
• Rogers and the 49ers secondary held Buf. (10/7) to 115 yds. passing
in the 45-3 win.
• Played in his 100th NFL game vs. NYG (10/14) and registered 3 PDs.
• Was part of the defense that did not allow a TD in back-to-back
games vs. Sea. (10/18) and at Arz. (10/29), limiting Sea. to only 2 FGs.
and Arz. to 3 pts. It was part of a stretch where the 49ers defense
did not allow a TD in 4 of 5 games, a first in franchise history.
• Rogers and the 49ers defense held Arz. (10/29) to just 7 yds. rushing,
tying the fewest rushing yds. the 49ers have allowed in a single
game in franchise history [7 at NO (10/1/72)], and the lowest rushing
output allowed in the 2012 NFL season at that point, surpassing TB,
who held Car. to 10 rushing yds. (9/9/12).
• Part of defense that limited Chi. (11/19) to 143 yds. of total offense (85
rushing; 58 passing). The 143 yds. of total offense allowed was the
2nd lowest total in the NFL this season at that point, [Hou. allowed
117 yds. at Jax. (9/16)] and fewest given up by the 49ers since 1/3/10
(109 yds. at StL). The 58 passing yds. allowed by the 49ers defense
are the fewest given up since 1/3/10 (22 yds. at StL).
• Hauled in his 1st INT of the season and 15th of his career in the 1st
qtr. at NE (12/16), picking off QB Tom Brady and returning it a career
long 63 yds. It marked Brady’s 1st INT in 230 consec. attempts at
home.
• Vs. Arz. (12/30), made his 100th NFL start and tallied 1 PD.
// GOLDMINE
• After graduating from high school, Carlos attended Hargrave Military
Academy (VA) in 2000. Hargrave’s Football program is not the
simple route, but the path to success for many young men looking
for stronger college qualifications and the opportunity to test their
football skills to the limit. “It opened up my eyes and I realized life
shouldn’t be all about football, but also about getting a good education,”
Carlos said. From learning how to march, to putting on a
uniform, he experienced some military training and discipline every
morning before class. “I lived in a dorm and for an hour of the day,
we would march.” His clothes, along with his bed sheets, needed to
be neatly folded and placed at the foot of the bed every morning.
“It was important for me to learn their ways. The instructor taught
us how to clean our room, fold our clothes and clean dust from under
our bed.” Carlos believes the program helped him build a vastly
stronger knowledge base and better self-discipline for further success
at college. “It made college so much easier. You get a sense of
what the military go through and I gained a lot of respect for them.”
• One of the things Carlos misses most about his hometown of Augusta,
GA, is the southern food. “Being from the South, I love soul food,”
said the veteran cornerback. Anything from collard greens, mac ‘n’
cheese, sweet corn bread and chicken, Carlos looks forward to his
parents cooking every year during the holidays. For Thanksgiving,
Carlos’ parents whip up black eyed peas, pecan pie and sweet potato
pie, his favorites. After re-signing with San Francisco in March 2012,
Carlos is determined to find a restaurant that reminds him of his
southern roots. “The one thing I miss most is soul food and if I find a
place out here, they will see me a lot.”
