A veteran of 12 NFL season, Clark Haggans joins the 49ers after<br />

spending the last four years with the Arizona Cardinals. He has<br />

played in 163 games (104 starts) and has amassed 507 tackles, 46.5<br />

sacks, 16 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries in his career.<br />

Haggans was originally selected by Pittsburgh in the fifth-round<br />

(137th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft and spent his first seven seasons<br />

with the Steelers.<br />

• Growing up near the Pacific Ocean in Torrance, CA, Haggans tried<br />

out surfing, and had the opportunity to go bicycle riding and relaxing<br />

on the beach. In high school, he played basketball, football and<br />

ran track. He’s continued to travel in the offseason, visiting Europe,<br />

Mexico, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Caribbean and having<br />

a passion for fishing and jet skiing.. “Being near the beach, going<br />

swimming, it’s just been a part of me.”<br />

• Haggans’ mother was a veterinarian and the family grew up always<br />

around animals. “We had a ton of pets. I don’t remember a time<br />

where we didn’t have at least four dogs.” Clark’s parents gave him<br />

the support and motivation in life. “With my mom, she kept having<br />

me go on and press forward. My dad always said, ‘Whatever you<br />

start, you finish.’”<br />

• Throughout his NFL career, Haggans has made community service<br />

a priority. In Pittsburgh he had a charity and signed autographs in<br />

exchange toy donations for children in need and also raised money<br />

by hosting a radio show for six years. In Arizona, he teamed with LB<br />

Travis LaBoy and bought toys for children. “We used to just drive<br />

down to the Toys R Us, get a U-Haul van, load it up and go find a Boys<br />

and Girls Club and drop it off just randomly. We were doing that during<br />

the holidays.”<br />
