6.2.1 SO Workstation<br />
6.2.1.1 HARDWARE<br />

<strong>TCS</strong> <strong>Spec</strong>ification<br />
The SO workstation shall comprise a Pentium PC with the appropriate network card (see<br />
6.2.7.4). Detailed requirements can be found in the SALT Computer Standard.<br />
This PC shall have two large monitors (17” or larger) and shall be located in the SALT control<br />
room. The user interface shall be a single keyboard and mouse.<br />
6.2.1.2 STANDARD SOFTWARE<br />
The following standard software shall be installed on this machine:<br />
• Linux operating system in accordance with the SALT SW Standard<br />
• X-Windows environment<br />
• GNU-C<br />
• KDE<br />
• Star Office<br />
6.2.1.3 CUSTOM SOFTWARE<br />
6.2.1.3.1 Purpose<br />
The purpose of the SO Workstation is to provide the full interface to the SO to control the<br />
telescope. It displays information from various computers and can send commands to these<br />
computers, as shown in Figure 6 overleaf.<br />
