Interview #2 Objectives<br />

This second <strong>in</strong>terview focuses on the respondent’s knowledge <strong>of</strong> HIV and <strong>of</strong> AIDS, the<br />

process <strong>of</strong> gett<strong>in</strong>g <strong>test</strong>ed for HIV, and their recent experiences <strong>in</strong> talk<strong>in</strong>g to others about<br />

their HIV <strong>test</strong> <strong>results</strong> or their activities done to conceal their <strong>test</strong> <strong>results</strong>. We want to<br />

understand how respondents have considered tell<strong>in</strong>g others, the benefits and drawbacks,<br />

and then what they have actually done about it <strong>in</strong> the past two months or so. Also <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>terest is the identity <strong>of</strong> persons they do not want to know about their <strong>results</strong>. For each<br />

category <strong>of</strong> person (want<strong>in</strong>g to tell or told, somewhat ambiguous, not want<strong>in</strong>g them to<br />

know at all), what is <strong>of</strong> most importance is the <strong>social</strong> relationship between them and the<br />

respondent.<br />
