26 Also this year for the first time, Marian utilized the services of Proxibid, allowing guests who were unable to attend the event to raise their virtual paddles and bid online. The auction’s online catalog was viewed 1,200 times and two of the 30 lots were sold through Proxibid. The evening concluded with amazing music from the appropriately named Blue House with special guests the Rent to own Horns. Susan Toohey closed, “Marian is incredibly blessed by all who give their time and resources to support our school. We, at Marian, appreciate the commitment and sacrifice the Omaha community makes to help us continue our mission of educating young women in the Servite tradition, empowering them to succeed by becoming confident, independent, thinking leaders. 2009-2010 Annual Fund Success Thank you Marian community! Through the dedication of more than 2,400 benefactors—parents, alumnae, parents of alumnae, faculty, staff and all members of the Marian community— Marian raised $461,347 in charitable gifts through the 2009-2010 Power of You Annual Fund, the most in Marian’s history. Marian’s fundraising goal for the 2009-2010 school year was $450,000, the most ambitious goal Marian has ever. Despite the economic woes, the Marian community continues to support the mission and vision of Marian through generous donations to the Annual Fund. The 2009-2010 contributions were an 11% increase over the previous year and a 3% increase over the total goal. Marian is incredibly grateful to our benefactors who year after year, accept the challenge and answer the call to generously support Marian. Leadership Challenge Grant Last year brought new donors and new incentives to the Annual Fund. Three hundred new donors shared their treasure, raising the total donor number to 2,456. In addition, an anonymous donor created the Alumnae Leadership Challenge Grant. The goal of the Leadership Challenge was to increase the number of alumnae members in St. Katharine Drexel giving circle (1,000 to 2,499) or higher. As a result, the challenge grant matched dollar for dollar any new or increased gift made by an alumna of $1,000 or more. Twenty-two Marian alumnae joined the St. Katharine Drexel giving circle by increasing their gift to $1,000 or more, resulting in an incredible $44,000 raised through the Alumnae Leadership Challenge Grant alone. Marian’s Board of Directors surpassed their goal by 12%, the highest out of any donor group. They raised $72,491 for The Power of You Annual Fund. Faculty and staff set the giving standard high with a 93% participation rate – an all-time record! Parents, alumnae, and parents of alums exceeded their goals as well. Every Gift Counts The importance of Marian’s annual giving program is indescribable, as it provides nearly half of the student body with tuition assistance, making the Marian education possible for any young woman. The tuition charged for the Marian student is less than the actual cost of educating her which means that, without private donations, educating our students would be a tremendous challenge. Gifts to the Annual Fund make a direct impact on today’s Marian girl. This fund not only provides tuition assistance but it also underwrites all aspects of a Marian education. The Annual Fund boosts academic enrichment, bringing awardwinning authors and teaching experts to our learning community; enhances program development, making nine dual enrollment courses with three Midwest universities available to students, supports staff compensation, allowing Marian to recruit and retain the finest teachers and a strong support staff, such as a Student Success Coordinator; introduces and implements cutting-edge technology in the classroom, including interactive labs, Skype and weekly pod casts produced and edited by students; keeping our students ahead of the learning curve; and supports Campus Ministry efforts at local service sites teaching students compassionate service to others. All members of the Marian community who made a gift before May 31, 2010 will be recognized in the 2009-2010 Annual Report.
