Reunion Weekend 2010
The Newest Members of Marian’s Golden Grads Society
“Esprit de Corps” These words hold a special place in the hearts of Marian’s earliest graduates.
Marian’s first principal, Sr. Marcella Sitzmann, OSM used this French saying often to remind
Marian girls that they are all part of one community; they are the spirit of the body (community).
The Class of 1960 embraced its Marian “spirit” as it celebrated its golden anniversary in 2010.
Marian kicked off this special celebration in September 2009, when members of the 50th
reunion year class were invited to join the current Marian community for an all-school mass in
honor of the Servants of Mary, Marian’s sponsoring order. After mass, these classmates began
the reunion planning process.
During the May 2010 Commencement Ceremony, members of the Class of 1960 were recognized for
their continued commitment to live by the charism of the Servants of Mary and to embrace Marian’s
Core Values. Each member received a rose from Head of School Susan Russell Toohey ’82.
The celebration continued through reunion weekend in June, when more than 20 members of
the class came to celebrate a girls night at the
home of Joanne Grasso Weidler-Hempel. The next
morning, these graduates were also inducted into
the Golden Grads Society during the All-School
Reunion Liturgy.
Each classmate was given a Gold Graduate charm
and prayer that the entire congregation joined in
reciting (see box). After Mass, the Servants of Mary
hosted a gathering for this special class in the
Servite Center of Compassion.
Loving God, bless our Golden Grads
on the 50th Anniversary
of their graduation
and for continuing the mission
of Marian High School
and the Servants of Mary.
Grant them, the right use
of Your graces and gifts
that in all they do, in every
pursuit of their life, may they seek
to give You glory and come
to share in Your eternal joy.
Direct their steps, O Lord, and lead them
along paths that will bring them
to You, in peace and love forever.
