The class of 1969 had a summer get together this June at the Interlude Lounge. Sr. Mary Gehringer, OSM ’66 was appointed the Servants of Mary Provincial. Sr. Linda Hess, OSM ’68 was appointed councilor. Linda Hess ‘68, Carol Kowalski and Mary Lefevre Dr. Jane Potter ’69 received the 2010 Spirit of Francis Award in recognition of her life-time commitment to caring, serving, healing and advocating for the aging person at the Spirit of Francis Celebration, a benefit for the New Cassel Foundation. She serves as harris professor of geriatrics in the Department of Internal Medicine and division chief of Geriatrics and Gerontology for the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Mary Pat Arkwright Heck ’70 was awarded the Principal Financial Group Associate of the Year Award for 2009. The award recognizes an agent who has made a great contribution to their clients and business center, which has been an outstanding influence on advancing the financial services industry. This is the second year in a row she has been given this award. Marking her 30th club qualification, Mary Pat also qualified for the Honor Council at Principal. The Principal Financial Group Honor Council is an exclusive level of distinction given by the company. Mary Pat is a certified financial planner practitioner, a life-time member of the Million Dollar Round Table, and in 2000 was the first woman to be inducted into the Principal Financial Group Hall of Fame. In April 2008, she was awarded the Pincor Lifetime Achievement Award.
Nancy Ricceri Major ’72 was a calculus reader (grader) for the AP Calculus BC exam in June in Kansas City. Nancy is a mathematics teacher at Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, CO. She became a grandmother for the first time when her grandson, Vincent James, was born April 19, 2010. Meg Gross Minton ’75 was inducted into the University of Nebraska – Kearney (UNK) 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame. Meg was an outstanding tennis player and pioneer on the first Loper tennis teams from 1976 to 1979. She played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for all four years. She was the first woman to qualify and compete in four post-season regional tennis tournaments. As a freshman in UNK’s first season of women’s tennis, she qualified for the AIAW post-season play in both singles and doubles. After graduating magna cum laude, she became a certified U.S. Professional Tennis Association teacher for 13 years in Hawaii. She was named Kauai Woman of the Year in Sports in 1988 for her work with junior tennis. After moving to Eau Claire, Wis., she has continued teaching tennis and has served as director of the Eau Claire YMCA Indoor Sports Center. Geri Hewitt Michelic ’74 is marketing director at the Salvation Army Kroc Center. In September 2010, Dr. Susan Galvin Scholer ’74, received the Partnership Award from the Servants of Mary’s, Susan is a Physician with Immanuel Senior Living and also the Physician for the Servants of Mary. Susan Galvin Scholer ’74 with Sr. Mary Gehringer, OSM ’66, provincial for the Servants of Mary Cher Klosner Lane ’76, along with her brother Gene Klosner, sang the National Anthem for Game 1 of the 2010 College World Series. They also kicked off the Bank of the West Celebrates America concert with the National Anthem – opening for Kansas, Styx and Foreigner. The duo also sang the team’s “Omaha Royals say, Fun Rules!” jingle on the radio and TV in the Omaha area. Joanne Eglseder Beiermann ’80 is a writer for The Columbus Telegram in Columbus, NE. She recently wrote an article reminiscing about her time at Marian and her 30-year class reunion. Margaret Dunn ’82 graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona State University’s School of Sustainability in May 2010. She will begin the Executive MBA program at ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business this fall. Margaret started and owns Ollie the Trolley, a local transportation company with a fleet of trolleys and motor coaches serving a ridership of more than a quarter-million annually. Now named Dunn Transportation, and preparing to celebrate 25 years in business, the company offers city tours, holiday lights excursions, corporate outings, fundraisers and trolley rides for private events. Margaret Dunn ‘82 is the founder of Ollie the Trolley Dr. Theresa Townley ’82, assistant professor of medicine and director of Creighton’s Medicine/ Pediatrics Residency program, was a part of a team of Creighton medical professionals who traveled to Haiti to help care for the survivors of the January 2010 earthquake. Theresa, a team leader at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Jimani, made an urgent appeal on behalf of some of her critically ill patients on the evening of Friday, January 29, 2010. She contacted Creighton surgeon Dr. Charles Filipi to report that certain patients would survive only if they could be airlifted to a hospital in Cap-Haitien, which has an intensive care unit, located in northern Haiti. Dr. Filipi conferred with other Creighton administrators, including Dr. John Cernech, dean of students & vice president for student services, and Professor Patrick Borchers, vice president for academic affairs, and successfully contacted Sen. Ben Nelson’s office for assistance. By noon on Sunday, the first group of the most critical patients and their families were transported in a C-53 helicopter. Three subsequent flights airlifted a total of 40 patients. Kristine Thomas ’84 moved from Omaha to San Antonio in August of 2009 with her husband Bill and three kids, Quintin, 9, Mitchell, 8 and Gillian, 7. Maureen Finnigan ’86 and husband Dan Madison ran the Boston Marathon. Teresa Kramer Ruback ’90 is a chef and worked at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA. Erin Grace ’91, an Omaha World-Herald staff writer for nearly 12 years, has won a national writing award given annually by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Erin was presented with the 15th annual Jane Cunningham Croly/ GFWC award for excellence in covering issues of concern to women on June 14, as part of the federation’s 119th annual international convention in Omaha. Erin was selected for her July 12, 2009 article “Why Are There So Few Women?” detailing how women are outnumbered by men in Omaha boardrooms. Pam Fortun ’92 received the 2010 Young Leader of the Year Award from the Kansas City Metro Chapter of the American Public Works Association. The award recognizes young APWA members who have demonstrated an initial commitment to the profession and the association, promoting the concept that length of career does not necessarily indicate leadership abilities or potential for service. Pam is a Senior Stormwater Treatment Engineer for the City of Overland Park, KS. For the past four years, she has been leading the city’s efforts to comply with the EPA’s mandate for municipalities to control post-construction runoff as part of their National Pollution Detection and Elimination System (NPDES) Permit. Pam received her degree in civil engineering from the University of Nebraska – Omaha in 1999 and master’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Abby Klusmire Jordan ’96 is the co-owner of eCreamery and was featured on WOWT in March 2010. eCreamery is an online custom ice cream and gelato shop where you choose your own flavors, mix-ins, packaging and even your own ice cream name. They also have a small boutique ice cream parlor in Omaha. It has been featured on The View, The Today Show, Rachael Ray and The New York Times. Abby Klusmire Jordan ’96 with her business partner Becky App Sarah Farha Troia ’97 and Jenny Farha Galley ’03 were featured on KETV Channel 7 and in the September 14, 2010 issue of the Omaha World- Herald for their latest contribution to the Omaha fashion scene, the Denim Saloon. The sisters opened their denim boutique in the heart of Dundee in early September 2010. Check out their website at www.denimsaloon.com Jennifer Jester ’98 was promoted to vice president of accounting at First Westroads Bank. She joined the bank in 2001 and graduated from the University of Nebraska – Omaha. Eileen Maziarz ‘98 is in residency at the Duke University Medical Center. Katie Beller Frazell ’00 was featured in the April/ May 2010 issue of Her Magazine with her daughter Mary Kate, who suffers from Sturge-Weber Syndrome. Katie raises money for The Sturge- Weber Foundation by selling hair bows online at www.creations4acause.com. Marijo Bosiljevac ’02 will represent the United States in the 2010 World Kayak Polo Tournament in Milan, Italy. Marijo teaches kayaking lessons for Nebraska Kayak Polo. Christine Weremy ’02 and two partners started a web marketing company called Web Business Consultants, http://webbizconsultants.com. It is an online marketing consulting agency which targets small to medium-sized businesses in the Midwest to increase brand and product awareness via website creation and Internet marketing strategies. The WBC’s primary goal is to teach businesses how to become self-sufficient with online marketing practices. They are currently working on a web site for author Timothy “Speed” Levitch, http://www.speedlevitchonline.com. Christine received her bachelor of arts degree in 2002 from Marquette University in journalism and graduated with a master’s degree in journalism with an emphasis on marketing and communication from the University of Kansas in May 2010.
