Process
The number of substances handled in chemical and pharmaceutical processes is enormous. Some products will be
unchanged and are used as filler substances but many of the products have an active role to play in the preparation
of chemical substances. In many processes, purity better than 99% is sufficient. Often the type and amount of
impurities are more important factors in the production process. The moisture and air content are often the two
most critical factors.
In most chemical plants, a broad range of products is used. For example, amines are used in the manufacture of surfactants, pesticides
and fluids used in the photographic development process.
A more familiar product is paint. Organic solvents are present in paint to create specific characteristic effects. Typical solvents used are
esters, ketones or aromatics. Carbon monoxide is often one of the base materials used in the manufacturing process for these products.
Chemical carbon monoxide 2.0 is a good example of a process gas used in the chemical industry.
