FOURTH GOLD
FOR YIN WEN
China’s 26-year old shooter YIN WEN won
Munich’s 50m Rifle Three Positions women
event, earning her fourth World Cup Gold medal
as of the beginning of the 2009 Series. The
talented rifle shooter won Munich’s Gold with
great determination, going through a consistent
match and ending up on the highest step of the
podium with a total score of 687.5 (590+97.5)
points. “I am not happy with my final, I can do
better,” the Chinese shooter said, surprisingly
critical while commenting on her fourth Gold of
the season. “I have shot several finals in the last
period, but I am still not happy with my performances.
Today I struggled to shoot a 10 in the final,
you saw it, and my final score was less than
100 points. I will have to work on it,” concluded
Yin Wen.
The domestic champion, 38-year old German
shooter SONJA PFEILSCHIFTER, finished
in second behind her Chinese opponent
and won her second Silver on this World Cup
stage of Munich. Pfeilschifeter shot a consistent
final round, firing 101.7 points (the highest final
score), but she had qualified with a lower score
of 584 points, so she was unable to rise any further
than the second place. Totalizing a score of
685.7 points, the German champion finished in
second, winning Silver with almost two points
of disadvantage from the winner.
First-time finalist, 28-year old Indian shooter
TEJASWINI SAWANT, walked into the final
round in second place, two points behind the
leader. Shooting a consistent match, the Indian
athlete tried to climb to first place. Suddenly, a
6.9-shot she fired on her ninth competition shot,
frustrated her expectations. Sawant could not
recover, and slid to third place, thus winning
the Bronze medal with 685.0 (588+97.0) points.
“The pressure was quite high, and I made a
mistake… I am happy about today’s medal, but
my goal is to shoot better scores, and obviously
better finals. I will have a try at the next World
Cup in Milan, next week...”
Her team-mate Lajja Gauswami, 20-years
old, was also upset by the stress of the final.
The young Indian shooter started the match
in third place with a competitive qualification
score of 587 points, but a 7.8-point competition
shot turned out to be fatal, and she eventually
landed in sixth place with a total score of 682.4
(587+95.4) points.
