Microturbine company Capstone
Turbine Corporation says it has
benefited from a long-term
factory rental programme for its C65 units
for two long-term rentals from
distributors serving the oil and gas
market.
“Our long-term rental program is
designed to specifically target the Oil &
Gas sector and Telecom companies that
frequently deploy clean and reliable
energy solutions while they build out
permanent infrastructure,” comments
said Jim Crouse, Capstone executive vice
president, Sales and Marketing.
Just last month Capstone Turbine
Corporation’s Canadian distributor,
Horizon Power Systems, sold three C1000
Power Packages to Genalta Power Inc. in
Canada.
The C1000 Power Packages will be
fuelled by gas captured from refinery
flares.
Today, a number of refineries, landfills,
and wastewater treatment plants flare
waste gas into the atmosphere,
which increases CO2 gas emissions and
global warming.
Capstone microturbines are an ideal
solution since they use the waste gas to
produce reliable and clean renewable
energy onsite.
"Genalta is committed to converting
waste energy sources into power that can
be used at client sites or sold back to the
grid," comments Graham Illingworth,
Genalta CEO.

processing plant lower its energy costs

In May 2010 Capstone received an order
for a C1000 from developers of a 2,300unit
luxury apartment complex in South
Korea. This was the first sale of a clean
and green Capstone C1000 power package
in South Korea.
Capstone distributor Samsung C&T
Corporation, headquartered in Seoul, sold
the C1000 to Poong Lim, a construction
and engineering firm. The C1000 has been
installed in a Combined Heat and Power
(CHP) application at Exllu Tower PJT in
Daejeon, one of South Korea's largest
cities.
In addition to generating one megawatt
of electricity at Exllu Tower, waste-heat
energy from the turbine is captured to
produce domestic hot water for the
complex, which features six separate 50-

storey buildings spread across 416,000
square meters. Emissions savings at the
complex are expected to be equivalent to
removing 700 cars from the road or
planting 730 acres of forest.
"This is one of the largest building
complexes to ever use a Capstone
turbine," said Jim Crouse.
The C1000 is said to be extremely quiet
and is a small, modular energy system,
which makes it an ideal installation in
residential areas like apartment
complexes.
The C1000 is a compact and robust one
megawatt power system which is said to
provide the same low emissions, low
noise, high efficiency and extended
maintenance benefits of Capstone's C30,
C65 and C200 offerings.
