AUMA & Kirloskar combine actuator & valve technology A partnership between AUMA and Kirloskar (KBL) has amalgamated actuator and valve technology to support an Indian thermal power plant in Salaya, Gujarat. The automation solution, supplied to Essar Power Gujarat Ltd, was produced to control the common header of circulating water pumps for Salaya 1. The bespoke design for the 2x600MW plant combines AUMA’s electric multi-turn actuator, integral actuator controls and worm gearbox with a 3.6m Butterfly Valve from KBL. AUMA’s modular actuator design supports the need for flexible operation at the thermal power plant. www.auma.com EMKAS’s 1000 Program of IP65 compression latches Designed for genset applications, EMKA’s 1000 Program of IP65 compression latches now encompasses a full range of lockable T handle, Wingknob, Square key & L handle variants, with shaft extensions to suit unusually deep door frames up to 95mm. This extensible shaft variant provides additional depth capability and also permits manual clamping adjustment by means of a threaded feature at the inner end. This enables the compression action to be fine tuned by adjusting the shaft mounted lock nut. The 1000 program compression latches (IP65) provide a 6mm axial clamp function so that after closing, when the lock is turned for its first 90° the tab is rotated 90° then stops, as the lock is turned a further 90° this rotation is translated into linear motion bringing the tab 6mm toward the door, thus clamping firmly onto the door frame. This action ensures a very high degree of vibration resistance, says EMKA. www.emka.co.uk The Pro-Pod automated storeroom portal from PGB Propeller GB has launched the latest version of its Pro-Pod automated storeroom portal, which uses advanced RFID (radio frequency identification) technology and incorporates twin interlocking doors for enhanced control and performance. Used as the entry/exit point for an enclosed storage area of any size, Pro-Pod Version 7 restricts access to the stores area and tracks users, automatically captures stock movements without need for physically booking items out, provides instant status reports on inventory within the area and allocates withdrawals to specific cost centres. This in turn ensures fully automated parts re-ordering and eliminates stock-outs, downtime and delays. Developed in-house and built in the UK, Pro-Pod’s RFID solution is considered the best of its type on the market and forms part of a suite of products that can be networked together, including Propeller’s lineside industrial vending machine, Pro-Vyda. ‘Access anywhere’ web-based software enables current stock levels to be viewed and interrogated remotely, making Pro-Pod ideal for large manufacturing or service sites, multi-plant operations and global enterprises. Delivering the highest levels of protection, Borri’s transformer range of UPS solutions achieves high efficiency even in permanent online dual conversion mode. A typical transformer-based UPS operates at around 88 percent efficiency at full load, while Borri claims its ECO UPS transformer solutions are 95 percent efficient. Though seven percent may not sound much, over a five year period the difference on a 100kVA UPS could mean savings of a massive £18,000 in energy consumption costs. Proving its superior efficiency credentials, the ECO range of three phase UPS equipment from Borri is the only transformer-based type to have made it onto the UK government’s Energy Technology List (ETL). The ETL is part of the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme and a key plank in the Government’s programme to fight climate change by providing tax incentives for businesses investing in equipment that meets energy-saving criteria. Although Borri’s UPS units have stayed true to tradition of Italian craftsmanship, it is in UPS software development where the company is pushing the boundaries to achieve even higher levels of efficiency. Its recently developed B9000FXS and B9600FXS series, incorporates an innovative Smart OnLine (SOL) technology option, which gives end users the option to achieve even greater efficiency levels of up to 98 percent. Borri’s new FXS range also incorporates a sophisticated load based shutdown (LBS) function, designed to maximise the efficiency of parallel redundant installations. Businesses that utilise the LBS function can significantly increase the efficiency of the UPS solution and therefore reduce power usage and lower energy bills.
