B.S. in Innovation and Entrepreneurship<br />

This major is designed to leverage existing strengths in<br />

Innovation and Entrepreneurship by <strong>of</strong>fering students a crossdisciplinary,<br />

flexible major that provides students with the<br />

knowledge and skills to:<br />

• Develop and manage the innovation process;<br />

• Plan and commercialize innovations;<br />

• Evaluate and manage innovation opportunities;<br />

• Participate in and manage ideation and the new product<br />

development process;<br />

• Understand the legal and policy issues associated with new<br />

ventures; and<br />

• Stimulate and manage the creation <strong>of</strong> new business<br />

enterprises both within and existing corporate structure and<br />

as start-up enterprises.<br />

Toward this end, students are required to have fundamental<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> the creative process, market analysis and<br />

research, consumer behavior, commercialization and<br />

organizational design. Students may then also choose to deepen<br />

their knowledge by further study in negotiations, e-business,<br />

venture finance, management <strong>of</strong> technology and project<br />

management.<br />

Students earning a degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship<br />

must complete the <strong>Clarkson</strong> Common Experience and complete<br />

120 credits including the following: 33 credits <strong>of</strong> <strong>Clarkson</strong><br />

Common Experience requirements (including the <strong>Clarkson</strong><br />

Seminar, two mathematics courses {calculus and statistics},<br />

two science courses {one <strong>of</strong> which must include a lab}, five<br />

knowledge area courses, and a technology course); 42 credits<br />

<strong>of</strong> foundation coursework in business; 30 credits <strong>of</strong> specialized<br />

business courses to satisfy the major requirements; and 15<br />

credit hours <strong>of</strong> electives. Since 50% <strong>of</strong> coursework must<br />

be taken outside the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Business</strong> (no more than 3<br />

economics and 2 statistics courses can count as non-business<br />

courses), most <strong>of</strong> the electives, depending on courses chosen<br />

for the <strong>Clarkson</strong> Common Experience, will need to be taken in<br />

other schools within <strong>Clarkson</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
