Healthy Heart class canceled
The Healthy Heart class at Naval Health Clinic New
England’s Wellness Clinic, scheduled for April 18 from 3 to
4 p.m., is canceled, the public affairs office said.
NAVSTA Earth Day cleanup
All hands are encouraged to participate in the Naval
Station Newport Earth Day base cleanup, April 11 to 15,
when trash and debris will be collected across the naval
complex.
Earth Day draws attention to the environment, and
service-members and civilians are welcome to get
involved by contacting the Integrated Solid Waste/Recycling
manager, Scott Mello at 841-2464; or Ensign Aaron
Kotlarz at 841-6927 for information.
Summer uniform shift April 25
According to the COMNAVREGMIDLANT/SOPA
(ADMIN) HRINST 1020.1A the summer uniform shift for
Zone 2, which includes Newport, is April 25 at 0001.
The instruction states: “a. The uniform of the day will be
worn when personnel are not required to be in a working
uniform. The uniform of the day is prescribed for administrative
offices, watchstanding, liberty, and normal Conduct
of business ashore.
Summer Camp registration
The Child and Youth Program, operated by the Morale,
Welfare and Recreation Department, has announced
summer camp registration is open to children of active
duty personnel, DoD civilians and contractors, ages 5
through 12
Fees are paid weekly and are based on total family
income. A nonrefundable $50 deposit is required at registration,
as well as a $5 camp T-shirt fee.
There is no additional charge for field trips. Camp
begins on Monday, June 27, and camp hours are 6:15 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m.
The registration schedule follows”
• Currently - In-house patrons (children already registered
in School Age Care Program).
• April 11 — Children of active duty personnel.
• April 18 — Children of DoD civilians and contractors.
Registration packets are available at the Youth Center,
or call the Fleet and Family Support Center at 841-2883.
Barber Shop being renovated
Renovations at the Navy Exchange Barber Shop, to
include a full interior renovation to update the equipment
and décor, are underway. The project is scheduled to take
approximately four weeks.
A temporary barbershop location is just inside the Main
Store across from Blimpies. No interruption of services
during this period is expected.
Boston bus excursion next week
Information, Tickets and Travel is still accepting reservations
for its motorcoach trip to Boston on Saturday,
April 16. It includes round-trip transportation departing
from Naval Station Newport at 9 a.m. and returning
around 6 p.m.
The cost is $15 per person and your tickets can be
picked up at the Information, Tickets and Travel office or
call 841-3116.
