Free skating for <strong>mil</strong>itary<br />

KINGSTON — Operation: Military Kids with Rhode Island<br />

Military Child Resource Network will celebrate April as the<br />

Month of the Military Child (MOMC) with a free fa<strong>mil</strong>y skating<br />

party at the Boss Arena Skating Rink at the University of<br />

Rhode Island campus, Sunday, April 10, 2 to 4 p.m.<br />

<strong>The</strong> event will feature storytelling, door prizes, refreshments<br />

and a special presentation to <strong>mil</strong>itary children to<br />

celebrate MOMC.<br />

In addition, each fa<strong>mil</strong>y will be given a fa<strong>mil</strong>y game<br />

night board game to take home and enjoy. Pre-Register by<br />

NAVSTA to mark Holocaust<br />

Rabbi Baruch Goldstein will be the guest speaker at<br />

Naval Station <strong>Newport</strong>’s observance of Holocaust Days of<br />

Remembrance, April 13, from 11 a.m. to noon, in the<br />

Naval Justice School auditorium.<br />

All hands and fa<strong>mil</strong>y members are welcome.<br />

Goldstein is one of the last Auschwitz survivors. At age<br />

16, he was the only person in his immediate fa<strong>mil</strong>y to<br />

have survived the horrors of the Holocaust.<br />

He is a former Hebrew teacher at Congregational Beth<br />

Israel, Worcester, Mass., and now travels to speak on his<br />

experiences at the Nazi death camps.<br />

Easter Bunny due at O’Club<br />

<strong>US</strong>AA* and Morale, Welfare and Recreation announce<br />

the return of the Easter Faire on Saturday, April 9, from 9<br />

a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Officers’ Club. <strong>The</strong> Toe Jam Puppet<br />

Band will perform, there will arts & crafts, concessions,<br />

and a photo opportunity with the Easter Bunny. <strong>The</strong>re is<br />

a $2 per person fee.<br />

or services.<br />

Idol returns for second year<br />

Registrations are being accepted at Seaview Lanes<br />

Bowling Center, Building 656, for the second <strong>Newport</strong> Idol<br />

competition. Auditions will begin May 3 at 5:30 p.m. at<br />

the Recreation Center Conference Room.<br />

Be part of the audience and help select the winner on<br />

Tuesday, May 10, in the Officers’ Club Grand Ballroom.<br />

<strong>The</strong> top ten competitors will sing beginning at 6 p.m.<br />

Food and drinks will be available to order starting at 5:30<br />

p.m.<br />

<strong>The</strong> winner of the competition will win professional<br />

recording studio time, make his or her own CD, and<br />

receive a paid booking.<br />

All hands Easter Brunch<br />

Celebrate Easter with a bountiful brunch at the Officers’<br />

Club.<br />

All Hands Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 24, at Officers’<br />

Club Grand Ballroom. Seating Times available from 11<br />

a.m. to 3 p.m. <strong>The</strong> brunch buffet includes breakfast classics<br />

along with roast leg of lamb with mint demi-glaze and<br />

honey glazed ham with bourbon raisin sauce, full dessert<br />

station and many more delectable dishes.<br />

Prices are $26.75 for adults, $12.50 for children 8 to 12;<br />

$7.50 for children 4 to 7; and free for children 3 and under,<br />

but a ticket is still necessary.<br />

Motorcycle safety check offered<br />

Naval Station <strong>Newport</strong>’s <strong>Navy</strong> Occupational Safety and<br />

Health Office will hold a “Ride Your Bike to Work Day,”<br />

April 11, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.<br />

Bring your motorcycle to the training range off Coddington<br />

Highway adjacent to Gate 4.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re will be free bike safety checks, minor adjustments,<br />

safety handouts and information on riding opportunities<br />

and routes in Rhode Island and New England.<br />

MSF-Certified Rider-Coaches will be available to provide<br />

information, assist with safety checks, and demonstrate<br />

exercises on the training range. Since this event is<br />

held outside the Naval Station, anyone interested in<br />

motorcycle safety may attend.<br />

Take advantage of this early opportunity to check your<br />

bike and get ready for the season!<br />
