Free skating for military
KINGSTON — Operation: Military Kids with Rhode Island
Military Child Resource Network will celebrate April as the
Month of the Military Child (MOMC) with a free family skating
party at the Boss Arena Skating Rink at the University of
Rhode Island campus, Sunday, April 10, 2 to 4 p.m.
The event will feature storytelling, door prizes, refreshments
and a special presentation to military children to
celebrate MOMC.
In addition, each family will be given a family game
night board game to take home and enjoy. Pre-Register by

NAVSTA to mark Holocaust
Rabbi Baruch Goldstein will be the guest speaker at
Naval Station Newport’s observance of Holocaust Days of
Remembrance, April 13, from 11 a.m. to noon, in the
Naval Justice School auditorium.
All hands and family members are welcome.
Goldstein is one of the last Auschwitz survivors. At age
16, he was the only person in his immediate family to
have survived the horrors of the Holocaust.
He is a former Hebrew teacher at Congregational Beth
Israel, Worcester, Mass., and now travels to speak on his
experiences at the Nazi death camps.
Easter Bunny due at O’Club
USAA* and Morale, Welfare and Recreation announce
the return of the Easter Faire on Saturday, April 9, from 9
a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Officers’ Club. The Toe Jam Puppet
Band will perform, there will arts & crafts, concessions,
and a photo opportunity with the Easter Bunny. There is
a $2 per person fee.
*The Navy nor any other part of the federal government
officially endorses any company, sponsor, or their products
or services.
Idol returns for second year
Registrations are being accepted at Seaview Lanes
Bowling Center, Building 656, for the second Newport Idol
competition. Auditions will begin May 3 at 5:30 p.m. at
the Recreation Center Conference Room.
Be part of the audience and help select the winner on
Tuesday, May 10, in the Officers’ Club Grand Ballroom.
The top ten competitors will sing beginning at 6 p.m.
Food and drinks will be available to order starting at 5:30
p.m.
The winner of the competition will win professional
recording studio time, make his or her own CD, and
receive a paid booking.

All hands Easter Brunch
Celebrate Easter with a bountiful brunch at the Officers’
Club.
All Hands Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 24, at Officers’
Club Grand Ballroom. Seating Times available from 11
a.m. to 3 p.m. The brunch buffet includes breakfast classics
along with roast leg of lamb with mint demi-glaze and
honey glazed ham with bourbon raisin sauce, full dessert
station and many more delectable dishes.
Prices are $26.75 for adults, $12.50 for children 8 to 12;
$7.50 for children 4 to 7; and free for children 3 and under,
but a ticket is still necessary.

Motorcycle safety check offered
Naval Station Newport’s Navy Occupational Safety and
Health Office will hold a “Ride Your Bike to Work Day,”
April 11, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bring your motorcycle to the training range off Coddington
Highway adjacent to Gate 4.
There will be free bike safety checks, minor adjustments,
safety handouts and information on riding opportunities
and routes in Rhode Island and New England.
MSF-Certified Rider-Coaches will be available to provide
information, assist with safety checks, and demonstrate
exercises on the training range. Since this event is
held outside the Naval Station, anyone interested in
motorcycle safety may attend.
Take advantage of this early opportunity to check your
bike and get ready for the season!
