During 2007, the Vice-Chancellor presented a discussion paper to Academic Board, aimed
at clarifying the role of the Board in relation to University management and strengthening its
role in academic governance. This triggered a self-review of the Board, led by the Chair, and
thence to significant improvements including:
w annual joint meetings of the Academic Board, Board of TAFE Studies and University
Council (with the first such meeting conducted in 2007)
w establishment of an ex officio position on the Board for the PVC Sarawak
(instituted in 2007)
w receipt and consideration by the Board of regular academic performance reports, prepared
by Strategic Planning and Quality, including time-series data for measures of demand,
load, progression, attrition, student satisfaction, graduate employment and graduate
satisfaction – with data presented by broad field of education and for specific student
cohorts, and with comparative data for other Australian universities (with such reports
instituted in 2007)
w receipt and consideration by the Board of annual research and research training
performance reports (with such reports instituted in 2007)
w receipt and consideration by the Board of annual transnational education (TNE)
quality reports (with such reports to be instituted in 2008)
w receipt and consideration by the Board of annual reports on assessment & appeals
(with such reports to be instituted in 2008)
