Technology Profile
Method of Definition of the Linear Physical-
Mechanical Properties of the Geological
Media in Their Natural State
Description
The technology of definition of true values of the fundamental
elastic moduluses of the linear elasticity (Lamé coefficients
λ and μ, or, that is the same, the Poisson
coefficient ν and Е module) of the rocks and geological
media in their natural states has been de-veloped.
Innovative Aspects and Main Advantages
For the first time the method has been developed that allows
more precisely and truly determine the true values of
fundamental elastic moduluses of the linear elasticity of the
rocks and geological media in their natural states, i.e. taking
unto account their modern geodynamic evolution. This
method operates on the base of field and well seismic data.
The existing and widely used (mainly in oil companies)
modern methods (analogues) are based on the linear theory
of elasticity and elastic waves and allow determine only
the effective (“apparent”) values of the required parameters.
The proposed method is based on a more substanti-ated
and precise non-classically-linearized theory (NLT) of the
deformed hard materials and elastic waves and allows
defining the true values of those parameters on the base of
information on velocity of longitudinal and transverse seismic
waves, non-linear elastic deformations and pressures.
Areas of Application
The method can be used in seismic surveys, geophysical
and geological surveys of oil companies; seismology; engineering
geophysics and geology; scientific investigations
and education as well.
Stage of Development
Algorithm of method and appropriate computer pack-age
program has been prepared. The interface of the computer
program for usage is being worked out at present. European
patent for method is in process.
The fundamental properties of material, including the Poisson
coefficient, should be invariant relatively to the level
and type of acting external loads and for all natural and ar-
Experimental dependence of Poisson coefficient upon the pressure
(Guliyev, G.G. The definition of Poisson coefficient in
strained media. Proceedings of Russian Academy of Sciences,
tificial materials 0≤ν ≤0,5. The results on figure show that
during the experiment the requirements of linear theory of
elasticity on small deformation and the Hooke law have
been distorted. These results reflect the influences of many
factors that are not taken into account in dependencies of
phenomenological theory. The probability of appearance of
such complications using the real seismic data is high
enough.
