Two new stages, Read from XML and Write to XML support this new capability. Variable Format File Input and Output This release adds a new source for reading from a variable format file (Read From Variable Format File) and a new sink for writing to a variable format file (Write to Variable Format File). Variable format files have these characteristics: • Records in the file may have different fields, and different numbers of fields. • The first field in every record must contain a tag (usually a number) identifying the type of record. • Fields within a record must be separated by a delimiter such as a comma. • Hierarchical relationships are supported. • All records have a record delimiter (usually CRLF). A pivot table aggregates and transposes column values in the dataflow to make it easier analyze data visually. With pivot, you can arrange input columns into a cross tabulation (also known as crosstab) that produces rows, columns and summarized values. Oracle Data Type NVARCHAR2 Spectrum Technology Platform now supports the Oracle data type NVARCHAR2. Performance Improvement for Write to DB You can now specify the number of records to commit in a batch when using the Batch commit option in Write to DB. In previous releases, the batch size was fixed at 100 records. By using the new Batch size option you can specify a batch size that optimizes the commit performance for your particular situation. For information about this new option, including the factors to consider when choosing a batch size, see the Spectrum Technology Platform User's Guide. Note: The Batch size option can improve the performance of writing data to a database. However, many factors can affect the overall performance of your dataflow. For information on obtaining the best performance from your dataflows, see the Spectrum Technology Platform Performance Tuning Guide. Create Table in Write to DB You can now create a table in the target databases from within Write to DB. Visual Query Builder in Read from DB Read from DB now provides a visual query builder, which allows you to create complex queries without having to write SQL. You can build queries with different join types, build queries with sorting, grouping and complex criteria, and build queries with different server-specific options. Read From DB Limit Increase The Read From DB stage now supports viewing more than 2,000 tables. Note: Release Notes To implement this new functionality, please contact technical support.
