COMES NEWS OF A BROUHAHA BETWEEN LONG-
TIME CAPE BRETON SOUTH MLA MANNING
“PORKER” MACDONALD, WHO TURNS 68 ON
SEPTEMBER 18, AND ONE OF HIS NOT-SO-
HAPPY CONSTITUENTS, JOHN GABRIEL BAILEY,
47, WHO WAS FIRED AS A BUS DRIVER WITH
CAPE BRETON TRANSIT AND LIVES WITH HIS
MOTHER.
Last month, Gabriel found himself driving in
the v. comfortable Boulderwood area of Sydney
when he spotted Porker, of the v. comfortable
Boulderwood area, out for his evening
walk.
The unemployed Gabriel was driving a Hummer.
Both parties agree that a conversation ensued
in which Bailey accused Porker of not
doing anything to help him get his bus driving
job back.
Both parties agree that it was a heated conversation.
Gabriel told Porker that Porker
should’ve helped him because he (Gabriel)
knows where all the bodies were buried.
Porker told me he advised Gabriel to stay in
his Hummer and not step outside the vehicle
because trouble would then surely ensue.
Gabriel told me he went for a coffee then
phoned Porker’s house to continue the conversation.
He left a message.
Gabriel said he received a return call back
from Porker in which Porker threatened to “tear

his jugular out” because “you, you little bastard
you don’t know who you are messing with...”
Horsefeathers, sez Porker, who told me the
only “threat” he made was to advise Gabriel not
to move from his vehicle.
Meantime, I’m happy to report that Cape
Breton Regional Police have not found any
grounds to charge either Porker or Gabriel with
making threats.
(Fellahs, can’t we just all get along here?)
John Gabriel Bailey was fired from CB Transit
in February 2005, after a brouhaha with a
Cape Breton University international student.
He had been driving bus for them since the summer
of 2000, and was previously off on stress
leave.
He told me he did nothing wrong, ever, that at
all times he was only obeying company rules
and regulations.
He told me none of 17 complaints against him
had any standing, and that, in fact, he had received
much commendation prior to his firing.
He was, afterwards, offered a job washing
the buses, but he turned that down.

I don’t suspect Gabriel will be in attendance
at Porker’s 68th birthday party.
However, I truly, madly, deeply feel this would
be the perfect opportunity to send along a nice
fruit basket and mend fences.
