For The Way It's Made
ALLEY
The two aides will
meet on the subject of
alternative power and
the silt buildup which
caused the considerable
damage to the trout
population on the Pigeon
River when the gates
were opened in July at
the Song of the Morning
Ranch east of Vanderbilt.
Attorney Ron Powers,
-representing Song el the
Morning Ranch, indicated
that due to the
old
sound thing to do in
regards to the dam. He
said the DNR has used
the same experts
themselves.
stabilization nf the hydro—tpmyratun?
electric dam for the time
being at the ranch site,
the Attorney General,
representing the DNR,
agreed that no court
hearing should be held as
previously scheduled for
Aug. 13 at the circuit
court room in Gaylord.
Powers added that the
ranch spent some 20-30
thousand dollars on experts
to find what is the
most environmentally
Powers said that these
possibilities are operator* 1 "
study: To dredge the
dam pond; or have the
silt sucked out. In the latter
case, a sediment
pond would be required.
He noted that trout can
only live in a range of
somewhere between 55
and" 60 degreeswater
As far as REA power
running through the pro-
perty. Powers said that
it is very expensive. Hyrdo
electric power
represents good, clean
electricity, he said.
Regarding the question
on whether he
recommended to his
client, as reported in
other media, that they
remove the dam because
at inadequacies in its
structure, Powers said,
"No, I didn't make that
statement." •
However, he did' say
that he had talked about
the situation with the
ranch people and the
possioiiicy or ootng mat
work.
With regards to the
..meeting in Lansing Friday,
Powers says it
should pretty well wrap
up the issue. As far as he
is concerned, Golden
Lotus has done its job.
