GAYLORD — The Otsego County -<br />

Corrections Commission Board will<br />

decide in the near fulure how to compensate<br />

for a vacancy in the resident<br />

director's position at Ihe Alpine Corrections<br />

Center.<br />

-. Nick Westra, executive director of<br />

the corrections center, said that the<br />

board will meet on the subject of the<br />

resignation of Audrey Ditmas. The<br />

resignation will take effect at the end<br />

of August.<br />

At the board's meeting on Friday,<br />

Aug. 17, the commission examined the<br />

possibilitlesTto continue with the pro-<br />

ferent approach to include team<br />

leaders, coupled with a program coordinator.<br />

These three leaders would<br />

operate under Westra.<br />

The third possibility would pertain to<br />

subcontract management through the<br />

Community Family and Childrens Services.<br />

The county would own and<br />

operate the facility, while the CFCS<br />

would provide onsight supervision.<br />

Westra mentioned that the commission<br />

make a decision. Another corrections<br />

committee meeting will be held on Friday.<br />

It was the first state convention held<br />

in northern Michigan for several<br />

years. Convention sites were Hidden<br />

Valley, Chalet Centre and the Gaylord<br />

Middle School.<br />

Among the prominent Kiwanians in<br />

attendance of the state convention:<br />

Len Gordon, Governor, East Lansing;<br />

James Dye, Governor-Elect, Saginaw;<br />

Arne Sarya, immediate Past Governor,<br />

Traverse City; and Doug Alexander,<br />
