INTRODUCTION TO THE THEMATIC OUTLINE<br />

The outline presented here is intended <strong>to</strong> provide a general view of <strong>the</strong> conceptual scheme of <strong>the</strong> Encyclopaedia. It is divided<br />

in<strong>to</strong> five parts: I. His<strong>to</strong>ry; II. Religion; III. Jewish Languages & Literature; IV. Jews in World Culture; V. Women. To show <strong>the</strong> conceptual<br />

components of <strong>the</strong> Encyclopaedia’s coverage, each of <strong>the</strong>se general parts is subdivided in<strong>to</strong> a variety of sections and<br />

sub-sections. The categories used in this outline are intended <strong>to</strong> be heuristic and <strong>the</strong>reby serviceable in guiding users through<br />

<strong>the</strong> Encyclopaedia. Because <strong>the</strong> rubrics used as section headings are not necessarily mutually exclusive, certain entries in <strong>the</strong><br />
