Berenberg Bank as Germany’s oldest private bank and Langer Sport
Marketing are bringing the European Senior Tour back to Germany
following a ten-year hiatus.
The Berenberg Bank Masters will take place from 17 to 19 June 2011 at the renowned
Cologne Golf and Land Club in Cologne-Refrath. With a prize money of 400,000 euros, it
is one of the most attractive events in the European tournament calendar.
In Bernhard Langer, acting as organiser of the event and ambassador for the tournament,
those in charge have found a high-class crowd puller to tee off at the inaugural
tournament. The exceptional sportsman from Anhausen, Bavaria, who is currently the
most successful athlete in senior golf, will face extremely strong competition in June 2011.
Apart from the 53-year-old, the group of players is expected to be joined by golf
celebrities like Ian Woosnam (Wales), Sam Torrance and Sandy Lyle (both from
Scotland), Mark James (England), Des Smyth (Ireland) as well as Costantino Rocca
(Italy).
Headquartered in Hamburg, Berenberg Bank was founded in 1590 and is Germany’s
oldest bank. March 2010 marked the first time for Berenberg Bank to appear in public as
title sponsor for a tournament of the European Senior Tour in Fancourt, South Africa. “The
European Senior Tour offers exciting golf and the chance to meet sport idols close up,”
says Dr Hans-Walter Peters, spokesperson for the personally liable partners of the private
bank. “We are delighted that we managed to bring back this series to Germany after a
hiatus of ten years.”

Langer Sport Marketing is a leading company for the organisation of golf sport events in
Germany and Continental Europe. Apart from the 2011 Berenberg Bank Masters, it will
host the Casa Serena Open in the Czech Republic for the fourth consecutive time. Langer
Sport Marketing is also a partner of the EPD Tour with c 20 individual events in Europe
and involved in the organisation of tournaments like the Ladies German Open.
With the Berenberg Bank Masters, the Langer brothers, after the end of the Mercedes-
Benz Championship at GC Gut Lärchenhof, are again presenting a professional golf
tournament at the highest level in North Rhine-Westphalia. The golf course of the Cologne
Golf and Country Club is among the most traditional courses in Germany and has already
been the venue of many a big tournament. Among others, it has already staged the
German Open, the international amateur championships as well as the Hennessy Ladies
Cup. The appeal of the parkland course located to the east of the metropolis on the Rhine
lies in its optical attractions and its excellent condition.
