EMPLOyMENT.<br />
IDPs have the right <strong>to</strong> seek opportunities for employment and <strong>to</strong> participate in economic opportunities<br />
(Guiding Principle 22). IDPs also have the right <strong>to</strong> a safe and healthy workplace, and<br />

Discrimination is a frequent problem with regard <strong>to</strong> employment. Discrimination on the basis<br />
of displacement, race, ethnicity, and gender may be brought <strong>to</strong> the attention of the mechanisms<br />
described in the section on Discrimination (page 26). In particular, IDPs might consider<br />
the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (page 124), citing CERD art. 5 and<br />
the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (page 128), citing CEDAW<br />
art. 11. IDPs who fall in<strong>to</strong> poverty because of the inability <strong>to</strong> find appropriate employment might<br />
consider informing the Independent Expert on Extreme Poverty (page 66).<br />
PENSIONS,.UNEMPLOyMENT.SUPPORT.AND.OTHER.SOCIAL.<br />
SECURITy<br />
IDPs have the right <strong>to</strong> social support when they are not in a position <strong>to</strong> make their own living,<br />
including in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age (e.g. pensions) or<br />
other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond their control (UDHR art. 25). Issues concerning<br />
