<strong>Providence</strong> Portland Medical foundation<br />

n <strong>Providence</strong> Portland Medical foundation and a board<br />

representative helped coord<strong>in</strong>ate an outdoor Mass of Thanksgiv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

that celebrated <strong>Providence</strong> Portland Medical Center’s 70th<br />

anniversary of serv<strong>in</strong>g the greater Portland community. archbishop<br />

John G. Vlazny presided at the Mass, which honored all those who<br />

serve at and are served by the hospital that archbishop Edward<br />

Howard dedicated on Sept. 8, 1941. The anniversary also was a<br />

farewell celebration for Sister Rita ferschweiler and Sister lenora<br />

Donovan, the last Sisters of <strong>Providence</strong> to reside <strong>in</strong> the convent at<br />

<strong>Providence</strong> Portland. They were mov<strong>in</strong>g to the Sisters of <strong>Providence</strong><br />

retirement residence <strong>in</strong> Seattle.<br />

n <strong>Providence</strong> Cancer Center researchers andrew We<strong>in</strong>berg, Ph.D.,<br />

and brendan Curti, M.D., received new support to cont<strong>in</strong>ue<br />

research on oX40, a promis<strong>in</strong>g immunotherapy approach <strong>in</strong><br />

cancer treatment. Their cl<strong>in</strong>ical and laboratory research led to<br />

a partnership with Medimmune, a division of astraZeneca.<br />

Medimmune will provide fund<strong>in</strong>g for cont<strong>in</strong>ued oX40 study at<br />

the Robert W. franz Cancer Research Center <strong>in</strong> the Earle a. Chiles<br />

Research <strong>in</strong>stitute. The foundation provided the <strong>in</strong>itial fund<strong>in</strong>g for<br />

this important research.<br />
