Providence St. Vincent Medical foundation
n Through Providence Heart and Vascular institute, patients now
have access to the most progressive cardiac care procedure in the
world. Gifts of support helped fund the new Providence Valve
Center, one of the first 25 sites in the nation to offer the new
Sapien valve to patients who are too sick to have traditional openheart
surgery. The collapsible Sapien valve, manufactured by
Edwards lifesciences Corp., is made of cow tissue and polyester
and supported with a stainless steel mesh frame. it is implanted in
the heart in a minimally invasive procedure via a catheter threaded
through the circulatory system from a groin artery incision.
Providence also has been invited to participate in clinical trials for
the valve’s next version.
n Providence orthopedic institute has quickly established itself as a
leader in patient care, research and education. in 2011, the institute
embarked on a data registry to compare the success of various
therapies in order to provide the best patient care, and received
approval for an orthopedic surgery residency that will enable two
senior residents to train at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
Providence Sports Care Center, located at JElD-WEn field,
opened in april 2011 and features a state-of-the-art orthopedic
rehabilitation center.
