<strong>Providence</strong> Seaside Hospital foundation<br />
n by fund<strong>in</strong>g technology to detect heart disease early, the foundation’s<br />
<strong>Providence</strong> festival of Trees held <strong>in</strong> December <strong>2011</strong> helped<br />
ensure that some community members will have many more<br />
holiday seasons to enjoy. The festival raised about $75,000<br />
toward purchas<strong>in</strong>g software that <strong>in</strong>terfaces with a CT (computed<br />
tomography) scanner to check for calcium deposits <strong>in</strong> plaque on<br />
the walls of the coronary arteries. The presence of calcium is a<br />
sign of coronary artery disease, which can lead to heart attack.<br />
Early detection can be a lifesaver. The new technology is <strong>in</strong> use at<br />
<strong>Providence</strong> Heart Cl<strong>in</strong>ic-north Coast.<br />
Partygoers raised bid cards and charitable funds at the <strong>Providence</strong> Festival of<br />
Trees gala and auction <strong>in</strong> seaside dur<strong>in</strong>g the holiday season.<br />
