Part-time course<br />
The course is also available for part-time study structured in<br />
such a way as to enable completion in six or more years.<br />
Part-time students must undertake at least eight hours <strong>of</strong> class<br />
t~me per week.<br />
Part-time students must also acquire two semesters <strong>of</strong> relevant<br />
work experience. The Institute does not arrange for work<br />
experience for part-time students.<br />

4. Computer Science/lnstrumental Science<br />
The computer science major involves the study <strong>of</strong> algorithms<br />
used in the solution <strong>of</strong> mathematical, engineering and business<br />
problems, and the implementation <strong>of</strong> these in a suitable algo-<br />
rithmic or business-oriented language. The work is sup-<br />
plemented during the latter years <strong>of</strong> the course by studies in<br />
logic, programming techniques and systems science.<br />
The 's<strong>of</strong>tware' emphasis in computer science is complemented<br />
by the strong 'hardware' orientation <strong>of</strong> instrumental science.<br />
Areas <strong>of</strong> study in this major include nuclear and optical<br />
instrumentation together with a strong emphasis on information<br />
processing, and digital and analogue electronics.<br />
