“Por tanto, nosotros también, teniendo en derredor nuestro
tan grande nube de testigos . . . corramos con paciencia
la carrera que tenemos por delante” (Hebreos 12:1).
La multitud representa a los santos que corrieron
antes de nosotros, que ganaron sus coronas de victoria.
El líder sabio aprende de los que han corrido antes
y han desarrollado la fuerza y la perseverancia. Podemos
aprender mucho al leer historias de los cristianos de
tiempos pasados. También hay santos que viven alrededor
de nosotros hoy en día con quienes podemos hablar
y a quienes podemos observar e imitar. ¿Cómo le han
influido otros creyentes en su vida espiritual?
Ya es el tiempo para que usted también sea líder en la
carrera espiritual. Alguien le está mirando. Algunos están
siguiéndole, imitándole, aprendiendo de usted.
¿Alguna vez jugó a “Follow the Leader” (Sigue al líder;
en algunos lugares se llama “lo que haga el rey”)? El propósito
del juego es observar al líder e ir a donde él o ella
le guía, o hacer lo que él o ella hace. Hay ciertos elementos
necesarios para el juego. Primero,
el líder debe tener un plan por el cual
quiere guiar al grupo. Segundo, debe
tener un grupo que confía en su liderazgo y le sigue.
Entonces para guiar a los que nos siguen, tenemos que
prepararnos y tenemos que conocer a nuestros seguidores.
Para saber a dónde vamos, necesitamos un mapa.
La Biblia es nuestro mapa espiritual. No dirigimos mal si
usamos las instrucciones de la Biblia. Un líder no puede
guiar a sus seguidores más allá de donde él mismo ha ido.
El desarrollo espiritual personal es sumamente importante
si queremos guiar a la generación actual y la futura.
El líder está consciente de sus seguidores. Una persona
que pierde a sus seguidores no es líder, porque no tiene
seguidores. Es urgente darse cuenta de quiénes le siguen.

“Y cuando él venga, convencerá al mundo de pecado, de
justicia y de juicio” (Juan 16:8).
En Hechos 2 se narra la difusión del evangelio y el
crecimiento de la iglesia después de la ascensión de Jesús.
Antes de su muerte, Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos que no
se quedarían solos:
“Y yo rogaré al Padre, y os dará otro Consolador,
para que esté con vosotros para siempre: el Espíritu
de verdad, al cual el mundo no puede recibir, porque
no le ve, ni le conoce; pero vosotros le conocéis,
porque mora con vosotros, y estará en vosotros”
(Juan 14:16–17).
También dijo más adelante: “Mas el Consolador, el
Espíritu Santo, a quien el Padre enviará en mi nombre, él
os enseñará todas las cosas, y os recordará todo lo que yo
os he dicho” (Juan 14:26), y les aclaró que vendría a convencer
al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio. Ésa es
la obra del Espíritu Santo.
Hechos 8:26–39 presenta la historia de Felipe y el
etíope. Gracias a que Felipe obedeció la voz de Dios y
permitió que su Espíritu le guiara, Etiopía se abrió al
evangelio.
¿Cómo sabemos que el Espíritu de Dios nos está
guiando para cumplir con nuestra misión en la tierra?
• Cuando se lo pedimos. La Palabra de Dios dice que
Él produce en nosotros tanto el querer como el hacer
(Filipenses 2:13). Si nos hemos entregado al Señor
y sentimos deseos de dar a conocer su mensaje, su
Espíritu nos guiará no sólo a hablarles a las personas,
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great
cloud of witnesses, . . . let us run with perseverance the
race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1).
The crowd represents saints who ran before us
and won their crowns of victory. A wise leader learns from
those who have run before. We can learn much from stories
of Christians in history. There are also saints today we can
talk with, observe, and imitate. How have other Christians
influenced your spiritual life?
Now is your time to be a leader in the spiritual race.
Someone is watching, following, imitating, and learning from
you.
Have you ever played Follow the Leader? The purpose of
the game is to watch the leader and follow where he or she
leads, or do what he or she does. To play, first the leader
must have a plan for leading the group. Secondly, the group
must trust the leader and they must follow.
To lead those who follow us, we must prepare ourselves
and know our followers. To know where we are going, we
need a map. The Bible is our spiritual map. We will lead well
if we follow the directions in the Bible. A leader cannot lead
anyone further than he has gone himself. Personal spiritual
development is of great importance if we are to guide present
and future generations. The leader must be aware of his
followers. If a leader loses followers, she is not a leader, for
there is no one following. It is urgent we realize who is following
us. Who will take your place? (See 2 Timothy 2:2.)

Before His death, Jesus had told His disciples that
they would not remain alone:
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another
Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.
The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees
him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives
with you and will be in you” (John 14:16–17).
He also told them, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all
things and will remind you of everything I have said to you”
(John 14:26), and “When he comes, he will convict the
world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment”
(John 16:8). That is the work of the Holy Spirit.
How do we know that God’s Spirit is guiding us to carry
out our mission on earth?
• When we ask it of Him. God’s Word says that He produces
in us both the will and the doing (Phil. 2:13). If we
have given ourselves to the Lord and we want to make
His message known, His Spirit will guide us not just to
speak to people, but also to say the words they need to
hear.
• When we recognize that we were set apart. God has
called us and He has chosen us for this mission (see Acts
13:2). The Holy Spirit will guide us before, during, and
after we are presenting the message of salvation to someone,
because God wants us to do it. This doesn’t always
guarantee a positive response. Some receive Christ and
others reject Him, but it is our job to be messengers.
We have been saved and sanctified in Christ to proclaim
God’s truth. (See 2 Thess. 2:13.)
