la década de 1960. Los de Chipre, Vietnam, Portugal, el
norte de África, Somalia y muchos lugares más llegaron
desde entonces. Muchos de Irak y Afganistán llegaron
para escapar de la guerra. Cientos de miles de obreros
han venido de los países de la Unión Europea. Muchos
de ésos son de Polonia, Lituania, Eslovaquia, Latvia y la
República Checa.
Los inmigrantes traen no solamente a sus familias;
también traen sus religiones. Ahora hay mezquitas, templos
hindúes y otras casas de religión al lado de los templos
cristianos. El templo sij (Sikh) más grande de Europa
está en Londres.
Porque hay muchas personas de muchos lugares, los
misioneros pueden testificarles del evangelio a muchas
etnias aquí. Los misioneros que han vivido en Asia central
y Europa oriental saben hablar los idiomas de los
inmigrantes de esos lugares.
Oportunidades para testificar
Puede ser difícil conocer a la gente y cultivar relaciones
personales en una ciudad grande. Pero hay cada vez más
personas que viven ahora en las ciudades.
Rachel conoció a Nadeesha en un grupo de preescolares
al cual perteneció su hijo. Rachel trató de pararse
cerca de Nadeesha para hablar con ella. “Hablaba del
tiempo o de cualquier cosa que se me ocurrió”, dice.
Entonces invitó a Nadeesha y otras mujeres más a tomar
té.
Llegaron a ser buenas amigas. Al conocerse más,
Nadessha hablaba con Rachel acerca de sus problemas.
“Dijo que yo era la única con quien podía hablar”, dice
Rachel.
Rachel ha ayudado a Nadeesha, y a Nadeesha le
importa Rachel. Por eso Nadeesha la invitó a celebrar
iftar con su familia. Rachel se alegra de estas oportunidades
para conversar con Nadeesha y citarle versículos de
la Biblia.
Londres presenta una gran oportunidad para que los
creyentes entablen amistad con personas de muchos
lugares. Conforme los seguidores de Cristo tratan de
alcanzar a estos inmigrantes que viven en una nueva ciudad
y hablan un nuevo idioma, tendrán la oportunidad de
hallar su verdadero hogar en Cristo.

“Y respondiendo el Rey, les dirá: De cierto os digo que
en cuanto lo hicisteis a uno de estos mis hermanos más
pequeños, a mí lo hicisteis” (Mateo 25:40).
Cristo nos enseñó a ministrar a las personas, y
que hacer algo para suplir las necesidades de la gente es
hacer algo para Él.
¿Siente usted que Dios le dirige a comenzar algún
proyecto misionero local? Pero tal vez se pregunta cómo
empezar. ¿Cómo puede escoger un proyecto misionero?
1. Empiece con el corazón. Piense en Dios. Recuerde el
infinito amor de Él por la gente a su alrededor. Pídale
sabiduría para escoger el proyecto misionero que esté
en su plan. Esté dispuesta para hacer lo que Él le pida.
2. Entonces, use los ojos. Mire y observe. ¿Cuáles son
las necesidades que ve? ¿Ve a niños o adolescentes que
no asistan a ninguna iglesia? ¿Ve a madres solteras
que necesiten ayuda? ¿Hay personas a quienes les falte
empleo o entrenamiento para el empleo? ¿Hay necesidades
médicas? ¿Hay personas que necesiten comida
o un lugar seguro donde hospedarse? ¿Dónde están las

personas que no conocen a Cristo? Haga una lista de
las necesidades que ve.
3. Use la mente. Mientras sigue orando, piense en sí
misma y en los demás que harán el proyecto misionero.
¿Cuáles son sus intereses y puntos fuertes?
¿Necesitan el entrenamiento?
4. Use los pies para encontrar otras iglesias o agencias
locales con las cuales podrían servir. ¿Hay algún ministerio
o programa que ustedes puedan ayudar? Si servirán
con una agencia, primero verifique si se permite
testificar del evangelio mientras ministran.
5. Use los oídos para escuchar a los demás del grupo.
Reúnanse y hablen sobre cómo Dios les está guiando.
Siga orando, y escoja una necesidad en la lista que
coordine bien con los intereses, los puntos fuertes y las
oportunidades. Hablen sobre cómo pueden trabajar
unidos para suplir esa necesidad y testificarle del evangelio
a la gente.
6. Cuando haya escogido un proyecto, ¡es la hora de
usar las manos! Mientras trabajan, sigan orando,
pidiendo a Dios que les use.

Because there are so many people from so many
places, missionaries can share the gospel with many people
groups here. Missionaries that have lived in Central Asia
and Eastern Europe can speak the languages of immigrants
from these places.
Opportunities for witness
It can be difficult to meet people and develop relationships
in a big city. But more and more unreached peoples now
live in the cities.
Rachel met her friend, Nadeesha, in a preschool group
that her son attended. Rachel tried to stand close to
Nadeesha and talk to her. “I would talk about the weather or
whatever I could think of,” Rachel says. Rachel then invited
Nadeesha and some other women to tea.
Their friendship grew. As they got to know each other,
Nadeesha told Rachel about her problems. “She said I was
the only one she could talk to,” Rachel says.
Rachel has helped Nadeesha, and Nadeesha cares for
Rachel. This is why Nadeesha invited her to celebrate iftar
with her family. Rachel is glad for chances like this to share
words and Scripture from the Bible with Nadeesha.
London presents a great opportunity for Christians to
become friends with people from many places. And perhaps,
if Christ’s followers reach out to these immigrants who
live in a new city and speak a new language, they will find
their true home in Christ.

“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for
one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’”
(Matthew 25:40).
Jesus taught us to minister to people, and that
doing something to meet the needs of people is doing
something for Him.
Maybe you feel that God is leading you to start a local
missions project. But maybe you wonder how to start. How
can you choose a missions project?
1. Start with your heart. Turn your thoughts toward God.
Remember His love for the people around you. Ask Him
for wisdom to choose the missions project that is in His
plan. Be willing to do what He asks you to do.
2. Next, use your eyes. Look around you. What needs
do you see? For example, do you see children or young
people who are not in church? Do you see single mothers
who need help? Do people need jobs or job training?
Are there medical needs? Do people need food or a safe
place to stay? Where are there people who do not know
Jesus? Make a list of the needs you see in your area.
3. Use your mind. As you keep praying, think about yourself
and others who will do the missions project. What are
your interests and strengths? Do you need training?
4. Use your feet to find other churches or local agencies
with whom you could partner. Is there an existing ministry
or program that you can help? If you partner with an
agency, first be sure that you will be allowed to share the
gospel as you minister.
5. Use your ears to listen to others in your group. Meet and
talk about how God is leading you. Keep praying, and
choose a need on your list that matches your interests,
strengths, and opportunities. Talk about how you can
work together to meet that need and share the gospel
with people in your area.
6. Once you choose a project, it is time to use your hands!
As you work, continue to pray, asking God to use you.
