EL AMAÑAMIENTO O SIRVI- ÑACU Propia de las zonas de la Quebrada y la Puna jujeñas, pervive una costumbre social de emparejamiento, practicada generalmente entre varones y mujeres jóvenes de comunidades rurales. Se trata del “sirviñacu”, compromiso asumido por el “chango” y la “imilla” (mujer joven, coya de la puna jujeña), cuando entre ellos despierta el amor. Es un matrimonio a prueba que se realiza con el consentimiento de los padres de ambos jóvenes y que con el tiempo puede devenir en casamiento por civil y, tal vez, también por iglesia. COCA Cuenta la leyenda que la coca es una planta sagrada entregada a los pueblos indígenas por Inti (el Sol) y Quilla (la Luna) -dioses de estos pueblos- para que pudieran superar el sometimiento del conquistador español. El poblador originario le atribuye al jugo extraído de sus hojas al ser masticadas, la virtud de mitigar el cansancio y adormecer las penas mientras que para la raza opresora –dice la leyenda- “significaría la muerte, la que se irá extinguiendo al transformar su líquido en un vicio repugnante y letal”. Por haberles sido atribuido el poder de adivinación, los “chamanes” de las diversas comunidades indígenas utilizan las hojas de coca en la curación como una manera de diagnosticar las enfermedades. 69 SECRETARIA DE TURISMO EL AMAÑAMIENTO OR SIRVI- ÑACU Typical of La Quebrada and Puna of Jujuy, a social custom of cohabitation usually practiced within young men and women of rural communities. It is the so called “sirviñacu”, a commitment assumed by the “chango” (young man) and the “imilla” young woman, “coyas” from the Puna jujena) when in love with each other. The couple lives together without prior civil or religious ceremony but with the parents consent. In time, it can turn into a civil marriage or also a religious one. COCA LEAF Legend has it that coca is a sacred plant given to the indigenous people by their gods Inti and Quilla (the sun and the moon) so that they could endure the Spanish conquerors’ subjugation. While the juice extracted from coca leaves, when chewed, will mitigate the tiredness and lull the sorrow of the native inhabitants, it will become a vile and lethal addiction for the oppressors bringing death upon them. Coca leaves were also used by shamans of the various indigenous communities to diagnose and cure illnesses. Coca leaves are also an important part of all spiritual rituals in their original form and the offering of coca leaves for a visitor to chew constitutes a real gesture of affection and trust.
