Passionate about traditional beekeeping,
the author is one of the 9 founders of
Apistoria, an association set up in 2001. The
author also teaches modern apiculture at
the beekeeping school in Liège.
Photo taken near Valloire-Galibier in the
French Alps in July 2010. Under the sundial
dating from 1858, the shelf intended for
hives holds:
Two old hives.
Peat blocks, which have been left out
to dry and will be used to heat the
house in winter.
A nucleus box, in case a passing swarm
is spotted.
Next to the shelf is a small alcove in
the wall holding a statue of the saint
watching over the house.
