Open course - Language & Culture<br />
0.1 Chinese Language<br />
Pre-requisites: To enroll for this course, students must either have followed the Chinese language course <strong>du</strong>ring the first semester or<br />
already have a basic knowledge of Chinese.<br />
Learning outcomes:<br />
- Learning basic grammar and sentence patterns.<br />
- Mastering 600-800 words<br />
- Developing communication competence by expressing ideas with accuracy and completeness.<br />
- The teaching materials cover the topics of shopping, transportation, seeing doctors, sports, and entertainments.<br />
Open course - Sustainable Development<br />
0.2 Science and Citizens meet challenges of Sustainability (SCCS)<br />
Learning outcomes:<br />
This interdisciplinary course, offered by the Cell for Sustainable Development of the University, explores challenges of sustainable<br />
development, and responsibilities we can assume as citizens and as scientists. It will provide participants with tools to critically<br />
approach environmental and social challenges of sustainable development. The course is open to applications from the public and<br />
students from all degree programmes.<br />
Description:<br />
Participation in the course means joining a diverse learning community with representatives of firms, NGOs, government, students<br />
and twenty lecturers from diverse disciplines such as ecology, political science, e<strong>du</strong>cation, physics and psychology.<br />
Between 19 February and 21 May, on Tuesday evenings from 17:15 to 20.15, the following topics of sustainaibility will be explored<br />
and tackled: Intro<strong>du</strong>ction, Economy, Indicators, Agriculture, Energy, Water, Science & Citizens, Concluding session.<br />
A public lecture series is organized in conjunction with this course.<br />
It is recommended to enroll in a peer-group project.<br />
