Being a location
of choice
The Luxembourg government has been investing strongly
in infrastructure, aiming at making the Grand Duchy the
European hub for e-commerce development.
Successful international companies operating their business through the
Internet have already chosen Luxembourg : Amazon, iTunes, Skype, etc.
“But it is time to widen this pool of competences to other e-commerce
companies and the ones active in streaming”, says Marco Houwen,
Managing Director of Datacenter Luxembourg. Having developed
a strong sense of what services SMBs are looking for, Datacenter
Luxembourg is playing a major role in making the Grand Duchy become
a location of choice for Internet businesses.

In this sense, Datacenter Luxembourg,
along with major Luxembourg-based
companies, founded the government-supported
initiative LU-CIX. By
bringing together companies active
in the same sector, this association
should make the Luxembourg-based
Internet infrastructure more attractive
to European and international companies.
“Datacenter Luxembourg
plays a key role in this new strategy,
pushed forward by the government
to attract new small and medium
businesses to Luxembourg”, says
Marco Houwen. “At Datacenter Luxembourg,
we already combine volume
availability with a highly-redundant
Internet access and can extend our
offer to managed services, such as
managing systems like Windows,
Linux, etc.”
FROM HARDWARE
TO SERVICES
Datacenter Luxembourg is focusing
on providing an advanced
infrastructure to clients looking for
a state-of-the-art technology to
empower their services and virtualisation
is becoming an important
component of the datacenter of
the future. In this sense, Datacenter
Luxembourg relies on RedHat and
XenServer to provide server consolidation,
while improving electricity and
cooling efficiency. Virtualisation is also
the foundation for effective business
continuity and disaster recovery planning.
“The client is, little by little, more
interested in CPU and memory than
the type of hardware under it”, says
Marco Houwen. “Also, with virtualisation,
we can optimize server utilization
to improve the client’s processes. In
turn, the client can focus on measuring
the quality of the services we
provide, by using SLAs.”
Datacenter Luxembourg can also
count on a strong partnership with
the German-based network provider
Inexio. “We are connected to
Frankfurt through our own looped
backbone and in partnership with
Inexio. This protected bandwidth is
designed for a maximum capacity of
80 x 40 Gbps.”
